She was born at home May 21, 1931 to Maria (Klippenstein), and Jake Friesen of the community of Dunston, in the R.M. of Thompson.
She completed her Grade 9 at Lloyd George School, and she grew up helping out on the family farm, and also taught Sunday School at the Dunston Church.
At the age of 21 she married Mel Irwin, and they moved to a farm 3 and half miles west of her family’s farm.
She spent her life as farm housewife and mother to three children. She really enjoyed the outdoors, and took pleasure working with both the the farm livestock and in her vegetable and flower gardens.
She was predeceased by her husband Mel in 2003.
She is survived by daughter Shirley, grandson Robert, (Azumi), sons, Doug, (Leona), and Phillip, (Marilyn).
Services will be held at 11:30 am August 31, 2024, at Wiebe’s Funeral Home of Morden.
Private family interment will take place at Miami Cemetery prior to the service.
Reception and lunch to follow service to allow friends and family to share memories and stories of Mary’s long and active live.
