Maryetta Jean Gandesbery was born on February 27th, 1953, in Moorhead, Minnesota. She attended high school in Lankin, North Dakota. She then married Keith L. Nelson on August 10, 1972. Throughout their life together, they had five children; Tracy Schaefer, Aurora, OR; Becky Knaus (Jered), Minto, ND; Tami Messbarger (Eric), Coon Rapids, MN; Jason Nelson (Jessica), Grafton, ND; Jeremy Nelson (Kristina), St. Thomas, ND.
Etta attended nursing school in East Grand Forks, MN at the age of 40. She graduated with her LPN and that turned into a nursing career which she loved because it meant she got to take care of others. She also made many wonderful friends throughout her nursing career. One very special friend which came from her nursing career was her dearest friend, Martina.
Etta loved any time spent with her 9 grandchildren: Michelle Knaus, Samantha Thissen, Triston Nelson (Sidney), Alex Messbarger, Alex Edwards, Ariana Edwards, Arawen Nelson, Anica Nelson, and Gavin Messbarger.
Etta also has 3 great grandchildren Daylen, Hadlie, and Boden.
Etta was known for her baking and cooking. Especially her buns and meatballs, which are sold at Hugo’s every Friday.
Etta could also grow almost anything in her home garden such as melons, beets, corn, grapes and even apricots. Etta would do anything for the people she loves. She has had friendships with people for many years in all the areas that they lived.
Etta loved to spend time with her family and friends. Having people over, cooking for them, and making sure they all knew how much she loved them.
Etta was known by all that loved her as one of the strongest, kindest, and loving women.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Jerry Hodny, and her sisters Geri and Diana.
Etta is survived by her loving husband of 52 years Keith Nelson, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sisters Paula, Theresa, Christy, and brothers Jerry Tom and Michael.
Memorial services will be Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Everyone is invited for a time of lunch and fellowship following the service at the Minto Community Center.
