With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Ned Tennis, age 98 years, on April 6, 2026, at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, surrounded by close friends and family.
Ned was predeceased by his beloved wife Bernice Tennis on October 18, 2024, after nearly 36 years of marriage in Carman MB. He was also predeceased by his parents, Lloyd Austin Tennis and Mary Downing Tennis, sisters Joyce Downey (Clarence) and Nellie Udey (Ernie).
Ned is survived by children, Kevin Tennis (Christina), Cameron Tennis (Marita), his stepsons Ian Black (Laurie) and Greg Black, his grandchildren, Misty Dawn Hassan (Tommy), Kody Tennis, Joshua Tennis, Ashleigh Tennis and Zachary Black, great granddaughters Oaklee, Rio and Storm.
Ned was born September 2, 1927, in the town of Mervin, Saskatchewan. He lived with his parents and two sisters growing up together in Dorintosh, Saskatchewan, learning all aspects of country homestead style living. In his later teen years, he made the trip to Carman, MB where he started to work on various dairy farms over several years. He ended up moving to Spruce Woods, MB where he became a Fire Ranger for the Forestry Department. His Father Lloyd Tennis worked as the curator of the Threshermens’ Museum in Austin MB. Ned went to work with his father, helping out with various activities. He planted many trees in that area where to this day campers enjoy the cooling shade that they provide. Knowing a lot about livestock and horses, he took a job on a ranch in Teulon, MB. This is where he was blessed with his two sons Kevin and Cameron. After time he ended up moving to Omaha, Nebraska and later Barrington, Illinois near Chicago, where he worked for over 15 years as a manager of two different racehorse stables. In 1987 he moved back to Carman, Mb working for Aubin Nurseries and later the Carman golf course. Ned loved people, loved music, suppers and dancing, this is where and how he met the love of his life Bernice. They married and for 36 years lived and thrived in Carman, MB. Ned slowly retired and started his own lawn care business, cutting grass and blowing snow. These customers turned into lifelong friends that he still has today. Ned was a very honest hard-working person that you could count on to be on time and reliable. Ned was a devoted free mason and regularly went with his “brothers” to Lodge meetings in Winnipeg, MB and surrounding areas. He loved horses, camping, gardening, riding his bicycle, taking long walks and of course, meeting his friends for coffee. He absolutely loved his children, his grand and great grandchildren, beaming with pride and joy just by seeing them. Dad will be sorrowfully missed and loved forever in our thoughts and hearts.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the medical staff and aids at the Carman Memorial Hospital and the Boyne Lodge, Carman, for all their kind compassionate caregiving, throughout his final journey. We would also like to say thanks to the Handi Van of Carman, MB, and the Masonic Temple of Winnipeg, MB for their aid in keeping Dad comfortable in his time of need.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Austin Threshermen’s Museum, Box 10, Austin, MB R0H 0C0.
