Orlie Sandvig was born October 10, 1929 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Olvin and Clara (Monson) Sandvig. He grew up and attended country school near Grafton. Following his education he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Harris on September 27, 1951 in Crookston, MN. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in the armored division, achieving the rank of Corporal. He returned to Grafton where he worked at the Grafton Post Office for many years. After his retirement, Orlie and Shirley moved to Chandler, AZ where they purchased a beautiful home. The couple later returned to Grafton and Shirley passed away on September 10, 2011. Orlie moved to the Lutheran Sunset Home in August of 2019.
He was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church, the Grafton VFW and the Grafton American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved taking care of his yard, trimming his hedges, mowing and making lefse during the holidays.
Orlie is survived by his children: Greg Sandvig (Phyllis Hoeper), Grand Forks, ND, Lori (Brad) Arin, Grafton, ND and Cheryl Schrank, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Jessica (Justin) Sivertson, Grand Forks, ND, Nicholas (Nici) Burns, Grafton, ND, Alexis (Lewis) Plutowski, Monterey, CA/New London, CT, Christopher (Cindy) Sandvig, Waukee, IA, Kyle Sandvig, Randi (Ben) McCausland, Hoople, ND; great grandchildren: Tyler, Zachery, Gunner, Olivia, Mila, Jake, Holden and Henry. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, his sisters and brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Private family services will be held.
Interment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery in the spring.
