October 30, 1943 – February 14, 2026
Dad passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie on February 14, 2026 at the age of 82. Born on October 30, 1943 in Carman to John and Hazel McCutcheon, Dad was the fifth child of eight siblings. He grew up on the family farm in the Stirling District northwest of Carman, Manitoba. Dad attended regular classes until grade 8 and then took grade 9 and 10 through correspondence at Stirling before completing grade eleven at Graysville school.
At 16 years old he started working for local farmer Jim Kitching and then went on to work for local plumber Ron James in the late 60’s. He decided to branch out on his own in the early 70’s with his own business and continued to operate his own plumbing and backhoe business for the next 60 years. It seemed like whenever you went for a drive with him, he was always pointing out that he put in a septic tank, septic field or “just did some work over there”. It seemed like he had worked on every square mile in the area over the years.
In the early 1970’s he and mom purchased the family farm. It was here where they raised their family. Dad later moved to Portage la Prairie in 2004 but continued to have cattle on the farm until 2019. Along with cattle he raised pigs, chickens and turkeys. He also supported his children’s hobbies and interests with at one time having 19 horses on the farm. Every November, Dad looked forward to hunting with family and friends and later with his son Curtis and grandsons.
Dad enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends. He would often come to the house and say “just going for a little drive” and without a doubt come home several hours later after visiting with one neighbor or another.
Dad is survived by his daughter Trish (Rick) Aubin, son Curtis (Nicole) and daughter Wendy (Jean) Parvais along with his 8 grandchildren, Graham, Parker, Dawson, Ryder and Nikolas McCutcheon and Felix, Abigail and Chantelle Parvais, his two sisters Marjorie Wanless and Jean (Dick) Elias, brother-in-law Ray Mansell, sisters-in-law Shirley McCutcheon and Susan McCutcheon. He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Hazel, brothers Allan, Clarence, Don and Ken, sister Ruby Mansell, brothers-in-law Ed Hinton and Mervin Wanless and sister-in-law Sharon McCutcheon.
