December 12, 1929 – June 12, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pat Lewis. After a brief illness, mom passed away with family at her side on June 12, 2023. Mom leaves behind her children, Cathy (Bill) Skyhar and Jim (Barbara) Lewis, son-in-law Steve Snyder, grandchildren, Tammy (Mike) and Chris (Naomi) and 6 great-grandchildren. Mom will also be missed by her brother-in-laws, Glenn Brown and Les Green, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Ed, her parents, Errol and Elna Fleming, her sister Fran, her daughter Donna, her sister-in-law Shirley and her great-grandson, Collin.
Mom was born in Deloraine and grew up on the family farm near Mountainside. She attended school there until completing her grade 12 in Boissevain. She attended Normal School in Winnipeg, where she obtained her teachers certificate, and went on to teach in Long River, Morris and Elm Creek. Mom met our father while visiting her sister Fran, who was dating Ed’s cousin Glenn at that time. In 1953, Pat and Ed were married and then raised their three children on the Sperling homestead and later in the Homewood area. When they retired from farming, they built a retirement home in the country and then later moved into Carman. At all of their homes, mom would spend countless hours on large gardens and beautiful flowerbeds. Due to health issues, Mom moved into the Boyne Lodge in 2020.
Throughout her life, mom was always involved in the church. She spent many years teaching Sunday School, at UCW meetings and fundraisers, Wednesday morning meetings, etc.
When we were growing up, summer vacations were usually packed into the break between baling hay and swathing. Mom and dad did travel further afield, with a honeymoon trip to Florida, a world’s fair trip to Montreal, and numerous vacations to the east coast, Arizona, Hawaii, Caribbean cruises, etc.
Mom’s two favourite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. She also loved to play cards, with 500 being her favourite. After moving into the lodge, there were many afternoons playing cribbage and rummy with family when they visited.
Our family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks the staff from the Boyne Lodge and Carman Hospital for their incredible kindness and assistance over the past few years.
Funeral service will be held at the Carman United Church on Wednesday, June 21st at 1:30 pm. Live stream of the service will be available at https://youtube.com/live/v85gHV82MdU?feature=share. Flowers are gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation in Pat’s memory can be made to the Carman United Church, the Boyne Valley Hostel Corporation (Boyne Lodge) or the Siloam Mission in Winnipeg.
