May 4, 1938 - March 5, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Peter Kauenhofen. Sadly, in the early morning hours of March 5, 2025, dad took his last breath. We take comfort in knowing that dad is now at peace.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Linda, daughter Deb Penner and granddaughter, Hailey; daughter Carrie Hennan (Gerald), and grandsons, Codi (special friend Kara), Chad, Colby, and Josh; daughter Carla Thiessen (Cory), granddaughter, Mikaela Seymour (Brett), great grandchildren, Oliver and Maisie; grandson, Riley (Jen), granddaughter, Delaney (special friend Eddie); daughter, Mindy Jaskiewicz (Jay), granddaughter, Emily (special friend Colin), grandson, Bryce, granddaughter, Kelsey. Sister, Susan Fehr; brother Henry (Helen) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dad had a real love for music at a very young age. He mentored four young lads and started his own band. They played at numerous festivals, fundraisers, and weddings, as well as in Church with his daughters. Dad recorded a number of CD’s, which we are so grateful for as we’ll always be able to listen to his voice.
Dad says he met our mom, Linda, in the summer of ’59 while he and his buddies were cruising the streets of Altona and they were later married on August 30, 1963. In 1964 they welcomed their first daughter, Deb, and one year later, another daughter, Carrie. Then in 1970 Carla was born and 10 years later daughter #4, Mindy. The house was filled with girls…can you imagine….our poor dad! But we’re all so thankful that we had a dad who knew how to raise girls. His love was always unconditional no matter what we did.
Dad was not only musically talented he was also very skilled in several different trades, mostly self-taught. He started in the workforce at Manitoba Sugar, moved on to D.W. Friesen’s and then as a carpenter building houses. He later found his niche in the car industry and served as parts and service manager at a couple of dealerships in the Carman/Morden Area. In 1996 he changed his profession and received his Realtor’s Licence. Dad found great joy in meeting new people and finding them their perfect home.
As a family we enjoyed many vacations to Florida, Nashville, Las Vegas, Ontario, B.C., and the Dakotas. Camping trips throughout the summer were yearly events making lasting memories along the way.
Dad also had a commitment to Public Service, acting as Councillor in the RM of Roland for 9 years, Midland School Division as a School Trustee for 4 years, and coaching his daughters’ baseball teams.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors and nurses at the BTHC for their care and compassion, to Jake Krahn for the Committal Service, and Wiebe’s Funeral Home.
A private service will be held as per Dad’s request.
Memorial donations may be made in Peter’s name to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3B 1M3
