September 20, 1948 - March 3, 2026
Peter was born to Cornelius and Maria Martens, September 20th 1948 in Durango, Mexico where he lived until he was 9 years old. Then the family moved to Ontario Canada where he was baptized on the confession of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ in the spring of 1969 by Bishop Jake Penner in the Old Colony Church in Aylmer.
In 1970 he met the love of his life Elizabeth Reddekopp and they were married two years later. They were blessed with 3 sons and 4 daughters. Mary, Kathy, George, Jake, Judy, Bill, and Annie.
He enjoyed music, outdoor games with his children and grandchildren and tinkering under the hood of his vehicles. In his free time he enjoyed socializing with friends over a cup of coffee. Many hours were spent telling stories and encouraging others at the McDonalds and Tim Hortons parking lots.
In 2006 Peter was diagnosed with skin cancer which he managed for 20 years. When he was no longer able to drive, many of his friends would bring him coffee and visit in the garage at home.
In October of 2025 Peter was no longer able to go outside due to lack of strength. For the last 5 months of his life he was confined to his bed, where many nights were spent singing and praying with family and friends.
Peter lost his battle with cancer on March 3rd at 6:35 pm 2026, and went to meet his Lord and personal savior Jesus Christ.
Peter was a beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Uncle, and Friend. He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, his seven children and their spouses, 24 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 foster children.
