Steven lived a full and interesting life. Born on April 18, 1948 in Winkler, Manitoba he was the first born of Manfred & Dorothy. He is survived by his sisters Karen (Keith Kuhl) and Cheryl (Arthur Penner), 3 nephews, 3 nieces with their spouses, and 15 grand nephews and nieces, all of whom he was so proud. He is also survived by many close and devoted friends.
Steven initially trained as a chef but later found his true passion working as a flight attendant, then purser, and finally as service director for Air Canada. During the latter part of his career he flew almost exclusively to Shanghai, China, Honolulu, Hawaii and Sydney, Australia. He travelled extensively for work as well as for pleasure. He retired from the airline after 35 years of service but the travel industry was not finished for him and he worked many seasons assisting cruise line passengers begin their adventures.
Steven loved to cook and entertain. Many fireworks and pride events were hosted at his Beach Avenue apartment. He loved music and Hallmark movies. He also loved his red 1994 BMW convertible and kept it spotless. Steven was a person of deep faith. He was fortunate to have found a community at St. Andrew’s - Wesley United Church and “The Word is Out” group. On the confession of his faith, he was baptized by Rev. Dan Chambers on April 1st in his hospital room, with 12 people in attendance. He was generous of himself and his time. He supported numerous charities and opened his home to assist others.
Steven’s ashes will be buried in his parents’ grave in a private committal service in Winkler on June 14. A memorial bench is being planned which is to be situated across the street from his apartment on English Bay.
