Rob was born on December 14, 1955 to Victor and Barbara Mihulka in Bowman, ND. His family moved to Grafton when he was 5 years old. Rob was selected as the ND High School Athlete of the Year in 1974. He was the ND State champion in javelin in 1974 and 1975. He graduated from Grafton High School and the University of North Dakota where he played Sioux hockey, baseball and track (javelin).
Rob married his high school sweetheart, Diane Campbell, and they made their home in Grand Forks where they raised their three children: Katie, Jenni, and Marc. Rob coached hockey through Marc's hockey days. Rob worked at BNSF railroad for 36 years. They moved to Maple Grove in 2020 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Papa loved playing with his six grandkids, being outdoors, bow hunting (especially elk in Montana), playing guitar, and spending time at the lake--even still water skiing at age 65.
Rob is survived by Diane, his wife of 46 years, daughters Katie (Nat) Malen and children Addison and Lucas; Jenni Drake and children Ella and Ava; and son Marc (Jennalee) Mihulka and children Maximus and Freya; sister Terri Kalbrener, brother Steve Mihulka; in-laws: Jeannie Campbell, Carol & Geno Schaffer, Nancy & Alan Kline, Tom Campbell, Bill & Tammy Campbell, and Greg & Leanne Campbell; and his 1975-79 Fighting Sioux brothers.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Vic & Barb Mihulka, brother-in-law Jim Kalbrener, sister-in-law Anita Mihulka, and mother and father-in-law Paul and Marietta Campbell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Grafton on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Inurnment will be at St. John's Cemetery in Grafton.
