May 30, 1933 - October 12, 2025
Roger Neil Lawforth (born Cornelius Reimer), aged 92, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025 at Salem Home in Winkler, Manitoba.
Roger was born on May 30, 1933 to Peter and Elizabeth Reimer in Mexico.
In 1955 he was baptized in Reinfeld, Manitoba.
He is survived by his two sons, Kenny Reimer and Allen Barkman, 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Barbara Barkman in 2024.
Roger’s mother passed away when he was 16 and it changed his life drastically.
Once he was 19 he decided to come to Canada on his own and start a new life.
He quickly picked up English and began to work right away.
He soon moved to Winnipeg to work there and worked at several places and found enjoyment in many different jobs and trades.
He often spoke of his work at the 7up bottling plant, being a welder, and working for the rail road.
Later, he worked for Shoppers Drugmart delivering medication to care homes.
He also enjoyed volunteering and was a Big Brother for many years. In his later years he cooked at a soup kitchen.
In 2010 he decided to retire and move to Winkler and live a slower-paced life. But he still had a lot of energy and began to volunteer at the local MCC. He enjoyed the work and made many new friends there.
His last few years were spent in care homes, most recently he was at Salem Home in Winkler. The first day he was there he said it felt like home. He particularly enjoyed the food and the friendly staff.
After he broke his hip last year he found it hard to have to rely on others for everything. The staff was very kind, understanding and patient as he adapted to his new circumstances. The staff at Salem home went above and beyond in showing love and compassion to him. He truly considered Salem home his home.
Funeral services will be held at Wiebe Funeral Chapel in Morden on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 2:00pm.
