Sanford Shulson, age 97, of St. Thomas, North Dakota passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton.
Sanford Shulson was born August 16, 1925 in Hillhead, South Dakota, the son of the late Simeon and Alma (Klefstad) Shulson. He attended school in Hillhead and graduated high school in Havana, North Dakota. Sanford enlisted in the United States Navy on April 19, 1943 and was honorably discharged on May 18, 1946. Sanford was united in marriage to Mae Heitmann on June 4, 1949 at the Lake City Baptist Church in Lake City, South Dakota. He worked his entire career at Bremer Bank. The couple made their home in St. Thomas, North Dakota where they continued to make their home until the time of his death.
Sanford loved to read, golf, fish and travel with Mae, travelling through every state except Hawaii. He was a very kind, caring and compassionate husband who loved to take care of Mae.
Sanford is survived by his loving wife, Mae Shulson, St. Thomas, ND; his nieces and nephews: Jan Just, Kay Rear, Marlene Kann, Tom Lee, Robert Lee, Ronnie Lee, Larry Heitmann, Randy Heitmann and Nick Heitmann. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gayle Hanson, niece, Pam Robertson and nephew, Greg Hanson.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 1:30 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Britton, South Dakota.
