“Bella” Nordquist (nee Deamel)
Sept 26, 1930 – January 18, 2023
With love and sadness in our hearts, our beautiful Mom passed away at Tabor Personal Care Home in Morden, Manitoba.
Isabel was born to Jacob and Sarah Deamel. Mom was the 6th of 10 children. Isabel spent her childhood years in Manitou/La Riviere, helping with the farm work, including milking cows and raking hay with the horses. Isabel’s mother Sarah died when Isabel was 15, so Mom spent time looking after her younger siblings. She enjoyed pitching at ball games and loved going to dances.
Mom met and married Melvin Robert Nordquist, and moved to his family farm in Miami, Manitoba in June of 1953. Mom worked hard on the farm, raising 5 girls, along with grain farming, raising cattle, pigs and chickens, driving school bus and baking lots of bread and buns. We so loved her cinnamon buns. After 20 years of marriage, Mom lost Melvin at the young age 42. Mom moved the family to Morden, Mb after selling the farm.
In August 1980, Mom married Raymond Fraser of Winnipeg. They lived in Winnipeg for 10 years then retired in Manitou. There, they made and painted wooden lawn ornaments. Ray and Mom owned a motorhome and enjoyed local fishing trips and in the winters, travelled to McAllen, Texas. They moved to Riverview Legion Lodge in Carman and then to Homestead South in Morden where they enjoyed friends, great food, and lots of family events. Ray and Mom celebrated 38 years of marriage. Ray passed away in May 2019.
Mom enjoyed a friendship and companionship with John Dyck while she resided at Homestead South especially during the restrictions of covid in 2020/2021.
In July 2021, Mom moved to Tabor Person Care Home in Morden, were she received good care til her passing.
