September 19, 1944 - July 19, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend at the Boundary Trails Health Centre, at the age of 79 years. Sarah was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in January 2023. She underwent treatment for the last 18 months. We are grateful her pain has come to an end. We seek solace that she is now with her Lord and Saviour and her parents. Sarah was baptized on July 5, 1963 and was a faithful member of the Rhineland Mennonite Church in Winkler.
Sarah Krahn was born in Kleefeld, Mexico to Cornelius and Anna Peters. She moved with her parents and siblings to Canada when she was 10. They lived in Abbotsford, British Columbia where she worked hard along side her father and siblings picking all manner of fruit before moving to Matheson, Ontario. She married in Matheson, Ontario. Sarah celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary to George (Gerhard) Krahn on September 1, 2023. George and Sarah moved to Winkler in 1966 and have lived in the same house since then.
Sarah leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband; five children and their spouses, George, Annie Krahn and Glen Reid, Helen Krahn and Mario Castro, Mary and John; her four grandchildren, Diego and Kady Castro-Krahn, Cassie and Sierra Reid; her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Helen & Isaac Loewen, Cornie, Anne & Henry Braun, Peter Peters, Mary Peters, Justina & Richard Loewen, Isaac & Margaret Peters; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anna & Jacob Hamm, Edith Penner, Margaretha Janzen, John & Sheila Krahn, Henry & Mary Krahn, Herman & Annie Krahn, Gordon & Maria Martens, Aganetha Krahn, Helena Krahn, Jacob & Helen Krahn; and many nieces and nephews.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Anna Peters, a baby sister also named Sarah, her parents-in-law, Gerhard and Judith Krahn, her sisters-in-law Sara Krahn, Marge Peters, Agatha Peters, Katharina Krahn and brothers-in-law, Peter Krahn, Isaac Janzen, George Penner, and nieces Annie Peters, Joanne Ens and nephew Steven Krahn.
Sarah’s greatest joys in life were her children and especially her four precious grandchildren, as well as gardening her many flowers and vegetables. Sarah always said, “Look at what God has created” when looking at the beauty and intricate details one could find in flowers. Not surprisingly, her flower garden was and remains exceptional.
Sarah loved camping with her children when they were growing up and later travelling with them and her grandchildren. She shared her cooking skills for many years volunteering for Valley Harvest Maids, preparing and serving banquets. Sarah could fix almost anything and saved all manner of items in the expectation they would be required at some point to fix something or because someone would need it.
Sarah was loved by many who will miss her smile, her beautiful blue eyes, and her caring nature. Sarah worked hard all her life for her family. She loved visiting with her siblings, their families and friends.
Public viewing and visitation will be held at Wiebe’s Funeral Home in Winkler on Monday, July 22, 2024 from 1:00-6:30 pm and a prayer service at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at the Rhineland Mennonite Church on Tuesday, July 23 at 2:00 pm.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at CancerCare and Palliative Care, and all those who gave so many meals, support and prayers.
