Spurgen T. Myers Jr., age 84 of Valley City, ND, formerly of Grafton, ND passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the Mercy Hospital of Valley City.
Spurgen was born July 31, 1939 in Langdon,ND, the son of the late Spurgen and Mary (Groff) Myers Sr. He grew up and attended school in Leeds, ND, graduating from Leeds High School. Following his education, he enlisted in the US Air Force. Upon his discharge he returned to Leeds and began working as Second Man at the GTA Elevator. He later moved to Park River where he worked as Second Man at the Elevator there. He was united in marriage to Maida Dolney on June 12, 1982 in Park River. The couple made their home in Grafton following the marriage. Maida passed on July 19, 1992 and he continued to make his home in Grafton for many years, before moving to the nursing home in Valley City.
He was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Grand Forks. He enjoyed golfing and watching football. He will also be remembered for his generosity.
Spurgen is survived by his siblings: Gywene Owens, Devils Lake, ND, Rita (Richard) Foss, Devils Lake, ND, Helen Greenwood, Grand Forks, ND, Shirley Owens, Fargo, ND, Alverna Sasse, Fargo, ND and Glenn (Audrey) Myers, Wilton, ND; sister-in-law Sandy Myers, Beulah, ND; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maida, and brother Wayne.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Military rites will be provided by the US Air Force Honor Guard. Interment will be at the Grafton City Cemetery.
