Terry was born on June 1, 1937, in Stoutenburg, the Netherlands, to Gerardus and Jannigje Veenendaal. At the age of 18, he immigrated to Canada in the spring of 1956, settling in Carman, Manitoba. In Carman, Terry met and married his first wife, Sue (née Kamminga), with whom he had 6 children. Sue predeceased him in 1997. Terry was also predeceased by his sister, Nel Blok; his brother, Han Veenendaal; and his granddaughters, Darcie Slaa and Erin VanKammen.
In Carman, Terry worked for various farmers before venturing into mink farming with his future father-in-law and brothers-in-law. In 1972, he moved his family to his own farm, where he began hog farming and kept 300 hives of bees. Some years later, he sold his farming operations and purchased an insurance brokerage, which he successfully ran until his retirement.
In 1999, Terry married Anna De Vries. They enjoyed many happy years together in Calgary and Carman, traveling and embracing retirement. As the years progressed, they sold their home in Carman and moved to a senior’s complex in Winnipeg. While they were content in their new home, Terry always felt that Carman was his true home.
Terry is survived by his wife Anna Veenendaal (nee De Vries) and his 6 children: Janet Schouten (Rob), Judy Slaa (Henry), Bonnie Slaa (Charlie), Glenn Veenendaal (Colleen), Ingrid Jackson (Jeff), Shawn Veenendaal (Laura) as well as many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
As family we would like to thank the staff and Dr. Van at Concordia Hospital for the care of him during his final days.
