Morden, Manitoba at the age of 79 after a brief but fierce battle with cancer.
Mom was born on August 23, 1945 in Reinfeld, Manitoba to Abram and Anna Wolfe. She was predeceased by one daughter Nancy (Peter) Klassen in 2015, both of her
parents, as well as many of her brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Rev. Peter Wiebe, daughters Janet (Dave) Dueck, Carolyn
(Dean) Oxford, Jacqueline (Dave) Friesen, and Tamara (David) Peters, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother Dave (Leigh), and one sister Helen.
Mom grew up in the town of Reinfeld, Manitoba and attended a two room schoolhouse in her early years, then moved on to high school in Winkler. She was a quick learner who loved to read; she believed she had probably read nearly every book in the high school library! She was always a very hard worker, beginning as a child by hoeing beets for 12 hour days, shucking corn, and picking beans in order to help support the family. Mom never wanted a career other than her life-long dream of being a wife and mother, which she did to the best of her ability with all of her heart.
Mom said for as long as she could remember she had always believed in the Word of God and Jesus. She was baptized at the age of 15 in the Old Colony Church in
Reinfeld. That year she married the love of her life and they went on to raise five daughters. Dad was ordained as a minister in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in
1981, and together they faithfully served their Lord for approximately 27 years. Life was not always easy for Mom and Dad but they persevered through the hard times, and the way they cared for each other right until their final days together was a beautiful sight to behold.
It is hard to find the right words to describe Mom well enough. Above all, she had a deep love for people. She always had an open door, a smile on her face, a ready laugh,
and in only a few minutes quite a spread on the table. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and she enjoyed variety!! One of her love languages was food, and another was music. Mom loved listening to people sing, and she loved to sing together with family or friends. She could play many instruments and had the voice of an angel. It is a joy to think she is singing with the angels in Heaven now.
After Dad, her greatest love on earth was her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to visit with them, watch the little ones play at gathering, hear about the latest things they were learning and doing, and look at pictures of the ones she couldn’t see as often. But her greatest love of all was her Saviour. She would often say that she wanted to meet each member of her family in Heaven one day, and we would know to look for her at the feet of Jesus. And although it is very hard to let her go, we know that we are not saying goodbye, only see you later.
The family would like to thank all of the staff at Boundary Trails for the compassionate and loving care they provided Mom. It was a true gift to help her pass so peacefully.
Thank you also to the many friends and church family who cared for Mom and Dad in the past months. Your prayers, cards, and visits were very much appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
