(nee Peters)September 5, 1939 - April 14, 2025
Gertrude (Trudy) Friesen, was born September 5,1939 to Maria and Daniel P. Peters.
She attended the village school in Blumenort and later graduated from MCI in Gretna. After completing Normal School in Winnipeg, Trudy went up north to teach in Thompson, Manitoba. In 1963, upon invitation from her brother Dan, she moved to Mexico, to teach in the Steinreich School with them.
Trudy stayed, and taught for many years. It is here that she met David Friesen, a teacher, and they were married in 1967. They welcomed their first son, John Howard and sadly, just a short year later, the family buried their second baby boy, Karl.
David and Trudy moved to Winkler after many years of teaching, preaching, and an additional season of service with MCC, in Mexico. While David served as chaplain at Salem, Trudy spent a few years working as an Educational Assistant in the GVSD.
After David’s tragic accident in 2018, Trudy grieved deeply. Despite loneliness and overwhelming difficulties, God provided for her, sustaining and encouraging her thru the support of family and friends. In 2021, she moved from her house to Lions Manor where she was welcomed by caring neighbours and friends. When it became apparent that Trudy needed additional help, she moved to Tabor Home and her final home, Salem.
We, her family, express our deepest ‘thank you’ to all who cared, patiently sat with her and took intentional time to interact and humor her.
Trudy was predeceased by her husband David, son Karl, her parents and numerous siblings.
She will be greatly missed by her son John Howard, brother Frank Peters, and sisters Dorothy (John) Friesen and Susan (Ed) Zacharias.
