Walter Siemens 86, of Winkler, passed away peacefully with family and close friends by his side Sunday, May 11th at St. Boniface Hospital.
Walter’s mother passed away when he was just a toddler, leaving him and his siblings, Sadie, Dorothy, Ed, Neil and John to be placed and raised in different homes. Walter was taken in and loved like a son by Erdman and Katharina Siemens and became an adored younger brother to Toots and Ed.
Walter was pre-deceased by his first wife of 44 years, Katherine, two sisters Sadie and Dorothy, and two brothers Ed and Neil.
Walter is survived by his second wife of 19 years, Lynda, her son and his two children. He is predeceased by his first wife, Katharine and survived by their three children, Carole, Jason, Tracey, two grandchildren, his sister Toots, one brother John, and many nieces and nephews.
Through the years, Walter and Lynda were business acquaintances. After the loss of Lynda’s husband, Jim and Walter’s wife Kathy. God had a bigger plan for their friendship and they were married on May 26, 2006. They have been inseparable since that day.
Walter stayed a humble man through all that he had accomplished throughout his life. He was always ready to embrace any new challenge and was a champion for the City of Winkler. Over the years, Walter’s accomplishments were many, far too many to list and if you know Walter you know what they were.
His greatest loves were his family(s), friends, Lego and Snoopy!
Viewing will be at Wiebe Funeral Home, Winkler, Tuesday, May 20th from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. and at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church prior to the service.
The Celebration of Life for Walter will be held Wednesday, May 21st at 2:00 p.m. at the Winkler Bergthaler Mennonite Church with burial at Winkler Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Buhler Active Living Centre or Pembina Valley Humane Society.
