June 30, 1947 - November 12, 2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Waltraud Rhymer on November 12, 2024, at the Carman Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years old.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Lloyd Allen Rhymer, of 47 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three children; son James (Camille) Rhymer, grandchildren Hailey and Amanda, daughter Julie (Alan) Stack, grandchildren Sophie and Rory, and daughter Jillian (Myron) Krahn, grandchildren Cadence and Keira.
Wallie was born on June 30, 1947, to Werner and Martha Werth in Luneburg Germany, and at the age of eight immigrated to Canada with her parents and three siblings, Eberhard, Anna and Werner Jr. Their family settled in Teulon, Manitoba.
Following high school, Wallie moved to Winnipeg where she spent many happy years living with her sister, friends and working as a bookkeeper. Wallie enjoyed socializing, and had many fond memories of her time spent at the German Club, which is where she met her husband, Lloyd.
After marrying on July 5, 1974, Wallie and Lloyd built a homestead near Rosenort, Manitoba where they farmed together and raised their three children. During these years, Wallie was active in the local community as a member of the Morris Lutheran Church and enjoyed volunteering in various school and community programs. In 2001, Lloyd and Wallie retired from farming and moved to Winnipeg.
Wallie, a loving and devoted wife, mother, nana, sister, and friend, touched the lives of everyone she met with her warmth and kindness. Her family was her pride and joy; she cherished creating lasting memories and sharing cherished traditions with her children and grandchildren. Nothing made Wallie happier than a house full of family and close friends, especially during the holidays.
She was a passionate, life-long reader, a fantastic cook, and loved spending time at home, visiting and catching up over a pot of coffee.
Wallie's love for travel began in her early twenties when she journeyed back to Germany to reconnect with family and explore her roots. She was proud to share this heritage with her husband Lloyd where together they travelled back to Germany several times. Lloyd and Wallie also enjoyed going on many road trips across North America seeing the sights and bringing back stories from coast to coast. Their sense of adventure propelled them further afield on trips to the Caribbean, Ireland, United Arab Emirates, Oman, and even seeing the pyramids of Egypt.
Wallie's legacy of love, devotion, and adventure will forever be remembered by her family and friends. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 20th, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Morris United Church.
