William Sylvester Kosmatka was born November 9th, 1932. He grew up and attended school in the Minto/Warsaw area. He graduated from Crookston Agricultural College. Willie enjoyed playing baseball on several teams around home and while in the service. Willie was very active in his community. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the Elks Club. Willie also served on the Minto School Board, Township Board, Fire Department, and held many offices in the Polish National Alliance.
Willie was in the United States Army from 1953-1955 where he served as a MP. Willie had many talents. He worked as a farmer, electrician, bank teller, insurance salesman, tax preparer, crop adjustor, before buying the Minto Insurance Agency. Willie was also known for his Championship Award Winning Bologna making skills.
Willie was a lifelong member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. In 1957, Willie was united in marriage to Annie Lizakowski. They had seven children that they raised on the family farm. Willie and Annie were members of the PNA dance team. They enjoyed traveling to their home at the Northwest Angle, Lake of the Woods where he was known as “Willie the Walleye” to his many friends. After Annie’s death, Willie was united in marriage to Marge Scheef in 2002. They spent time on the farm near Warsaw and wintered in Homosassa, Florida. In 2021, they made Homosassa, Florida their permanent home. Willie was a member of the St. Benedict Catholic Church in Crystal River, Florida.
Willie is survived by his wife of 20 years, Marge; children: Mary Greer (Richard), Donna Galloway (Bill), Karen Anderson (Ron), Jackie Swank (Rick), Tommy Kosmatka, David Kosmatka (Lori); Grandchildren: Andy Woods, Isaiah Greer, Alayna Greer, AnnaMarie Greer, Holly Natonick, Paul Anderson, Sadie Sayler, Cole Sobolik, Sophie Kosmatka, Aubrey Kosmatka; Great Grandchildren: Collin Greer, Emma Greer, Henrik Natonick, Cruz Natonick; Step-Children: Tom Scheef (Becky), Julie Grabowska, Mike Scheef (Tonie); Siblings: Georgian Wysocki (George), Virginia Pokrzywinski (Danny), Susan Collette, and Clarion Hudacko. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Kosmatka, daughter, Michelle Kosmatka, his parents and grandparents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Warsaw, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion Post #41 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. The service will be live streamed on the Tollefson Funeral Home Inc. Facebook page. Inurnment will be at the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery, Warsaw, ND.
