June 10 1930 - July 15, 2025
William Gerald Barclay passed away Tuesday evening July 15th, 2025 at the Pembina Health Centre. Gerald known to his friends as Gerry was born in Manitou June 10th, 1930. His parents were Cathie (Cartney) and Robert William Barclay.
Dad grew up on Inverallen Farm north of Darlingford. He completed this grade 8 education at Barclay School. Not wanting to return for grade 9 he entered the workforce at age 14 under Grandma Barclay’s strict guidance. He came home to farm with his dad when he was 15.
On October 22nd, 1955 he married Lorna Pockett. They raised their 3 children, Barbara (Conrad Grexton), Cathy (Doug Lone), Kent (Patty McElroy) with kindness and generosity on the farm.
Dad was active in the community life of Darlingford. He enjoyed curling and served on the boards of Zion Calvin United Church, Darlingford School Museum, and the Darlingford Cemetery. Dad was also involved in the initial Darlingford Foodgrains Bank campaign.
Mom and dad retired to Morden in 2008. Dad was a hard worker, helpful neighbour and good friend. He had a great sense of humour and a wealth of good stories that he loved to share.
Dad was predeceased by mom his wife of 66 years, his parents, brother Jim and sister-in-law Gladys (Harde).
Dad enjoyed his grandchildren Ava (Barry) and Jennifer Grexton, Graham (Lauren) and Kelly Lone.
He was fortunate to have time to know his great grandchildren Orin and Saveta Grexton and Chester Lone. Chester’s visits were a highlight for dad and the residents at the care home.
