September 18, 1944 - June 7th, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Robert Hill. Bill passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2023 at Carman Hospital with his daughter by his side.
Bill was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and lived his life within the province. Animals were always a big part of Bills life. He was a farm boy at heart. He raised rabbits, turkeys, managed several farms and eventually became the co-founder of WW Stables, ‘Home of Old Par”.
He spent many hours in the company of horses. Rodeo events and crossing the prairie from
Wpg to Petersfield where annual events that his sons remember fondly. Bill usually had a dog by his side. He was an avid hunter and the dogs Bill raised were his faithful hunting partners. He was a member of the Manitoba Wildlife Federation and took part in conservation initiatives in the St. Claude area during his membership. Bill worked for the City of Winnipeg for 27 years. From maintaining the ice rinks to working at the Assiniboine Zoo he was always a conscientious hard worker.
He is survived by his two sons, Cory Hill, Steven Hill, Hali Norburn (daughter in law), and one daughter, Jennifer Hill. Bill has seven grandchildren; Jordan, Trey, Reshawn, Shayla, Jamie, Erik and Paul, and four great grandchildren as well as his brother Ken Hill. Bill was blessed in the last year of his time with us by the connection he made with Sherlie Major. Our family is grateful for the bond, laughter and companionship they shared. He is predeceased by his mother and father, (Isabelle and William Hill), and his dear brother Jim HIll.
Our family is grateful for the kindness and care Bill received at the Carman Hospital. We are also thankful and appreciative for the many visits and phone calls he received from his closest friends, Harry and Marcel, and far away family members while he was hospitalised.
It was Bill's wish that no service or memorial take place. Our family would like to suggest that
donations to the Palliative Care Unit at Carman Memorial or to the Manitoba Wildlife Foundation can be made in lieu of flowers.
