August 4, 2004 - September 15, 2025
Zoe was born in Edmonton, AB on August 4th, 2004 with a severe congenital heart condition. She spent most of her first 6 months in hospital and her first 5 years with low oxygen levels but a twinkle in her eye. She thrived until around age 4 when her body started to require more oxygen and she received her 3rd and last open heart surgery. Once she recovered she had pink lips for the very first time.
Zoe couldn’t always keep up and do everything other kids her age did but she only focused on what she could do. She loved the water, especially if it was above 30 degrees, the family cottage, tubing, knee boarding, quading, anything Disney (especially Stitch). She loved family and loved children, making each one feel special.
Zoe’s love for animals was unmatched. There was never a stray or runt that escaped her love or that she didn’t try to smuggle into our lives. We had to regularly check the playhouse to make sure we had no unwanted guests. Feno, Penny the hedgehog, Princess the 3 legged cat, Milo the tank, Rebel the tail amputee, Jelly Bean the cuddler and all the ones in between..it was never boring.
Her sisters were so special to her along with her 3 cousins, the “triplets”. The 6 of them had so many fun adventures. They included her in everything and never made her limitations an issue. If she got tired on a hike, they would carry her on their backs or pulled her in a wagon.
Face time was one of her favorite ways of connecting when unable to see family in person. Her many calls will be missed by all.
Zoe graduated from high school in June of 2022 and achieved her drivers license in September of 2022, both huge accomplishments. That winter, we noticed Zoe’s energy levels start to drop. By spring of 2023 her body was in distress and it was decided that a heart transplant would be her best option. The next 2 years were spent praying, preparing, endless testing and appointments and she faced it all with so much courage and optimism. Spring of 2025 doctors decided that there were too many complications and risks that transplant was no longer an option. Like all other challenges in her life, she met this news with grace and a positive attitude. She knew God had his hand on her from the very beginning and he would carry her through whatever was in her future.
Zoe made the decision to be baptized in our backyard on June 21st and what a celebration it was.
Zoe radiated joy all her life. She had an infectious giggle and a goofy personality and sense of humour that was contagious and kept us entertained all her life. You would think she didn’t have a care in the world, and she didn’t because God carried all her burdens.
Over the summer Zoe’s health gradually declined but her spirit remained strong. She took it all in stride, accepting more and more help as she needed, never complaining or feeling sorry for herself. She celebrated her 21st birthday on her last trip to the family cabin.
The palliative care team did an amazing job supporting us all so we could care for Zoe at home, what a blessing that was…thank you! Zoe died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Zoe is survived by her parents, Maury and Pam Peters, her 2 amazing sisters Taylor (Matthew, the brother she never had) Fehr and Hailey.
Zoe’s passing has left a huge void in the hearts of all her family and friends who were so fortunate to have had Zoe be a part of their lives. We celebrate the healing she received upon entering the gates of Heaven and look forward to being reunited with her again one day.
Special thanks to family and friends who always supported and prayed for Zoe and us as a family. Also huge thank you to Dr Soni and staff at Travis Price Children's Heart Centre (formerly Variety Heart Centre) who not only saw Zoe as a patient for her first 18 years but as a human being that mattered. Thanks to Dr. R Ducas who continued caring for Zoe as an adult and all the other doctors, nurses and support staff who made an impact in Zoe’s life, in Edmonton, Winnipeg and Boundary Trails.
