Carol Jean Brown, 76, (aka Jeannie Brown) passed away peacefully at home, on Thursday, September 30, 2021.   She was born in Fort Totten, ND to the late Margaret (Lohnes) and Silas Ironheart Sr. on December 6, 1944.
Carol was married to Ermen Brown Sr. on December 6, 1963.  They were married for 49 years.
Carol worked in various jobs throughout her life mostly with children and elderly.  She was employed with St. Jude’s, Headstart, Spirit Lake Group Home, and Sioux Manufacturing Corporation.  She found her passion being a foster parent, opening her home to many children throughout the years.  She was a foster parent from 1963 to 2011, with over 100 children passing through her home.
Carol loved to sing, she loved music by Elvis and Patsy Cline.  She enjoyed purchasing vehicles and when someone in the family got a new vehicle, she wanted to take a ride in it.   She loved going to shop and eat out, of which she did right up till her death.
Carol is survived by her children, Ermen (Lori) Brown Jr., Craig (Punky) Brown, Carol Brown II, Cameron Laducer, and Dane (Misty) Herald; grandchildren are Melissa Dauphinais, Brittany Decouteau, Ryan Brown, Nicole Brown, Codi Malnourie, Craig Brown Jr., Bethany Brown, Jaydean Cavanaugh, Cordelle Gourd, Asher Meade, Victoria Whitetail, Berina Littleghost, Candice Brown, Nikoa, Neko, Neka, and Aiyanna Herald; great grandchildren are Myona and Mila Dauphinais, Easton and Mikan Kraft, Bexlee Decouteau, Lanehya, Jordan, and Taylor Malnourie, Jedidiah and Keaton Brown.; one great-great grandson, Parker Dauphinais; brothers, Silas Ironheart Jr., and Jesse (Sherry) Cavanaugh Jr.; sister Beverly (Marshall) French and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ermen Brown Sr., her parents, Margaret & Silas Ironheart Sr., her grandparents Florence and Aaron Lohnes, and Joseph and Myrtle Ironheart and her grandson, Kyle Littleghost.
Pallbearers will be Carol’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Dane Herald, Ryan Brown, Craig Brown Jr., Cameron Laducer,  Lanehya Malnourie, Myona Dauphinais and Bethany Brown. 
Honorary pallbearers, Bill and Julie King, Pat Walkingeagle, Marsha Blueshield, Ramona Gannon, Sue Brown, Carol Cavanaugh, and Jeannie Lohnes.

Visitation will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  The procession to St. Michael will leave on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Church with burial in the church cemetery. 

Donald A. “Don” Hoffart, 83 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Eventide Heartland Care Center.
Donald was born on March 3, 1938, in Rugby, ND, the son Michael and Maria (Axtman) Hoffart. He grew up on a farm in the Balta, ND area and attended Balta Public School. He graduated from Balta High School with the class of 1956.
Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp on September 28, 1956 and served his country stateside. He was honorably discharged on September 27, 1958, with the rank of Corporal. After his discharge he returned to Balta and worked road construction, as a bartender part-time, and drove bus for the Balta School District.
In the summer of 1959, Don began an extensive career with North Star Distributors, working for Ed Wentz and Bernie Huss which was later sold to Schwan Wholesale, Inc. in 1989. In 2006, after 47 years he retired with many fond memories and friendships.
Don was united in marriage to Regina Koble on November 21, 1960, at the Little Flower Catholic Church in Rugby. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, and raised their family through the years. They were soon to celebrate 61 years of marriage.
Don was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed membership in the Elks and Eagles Lodges. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for several years.
Don was a man of many talents as he under-took numerous house remodeling projects and helped his children with their home projects. His hobbies were collecting old coins and miniature vintage Ertl cars and trucks, but his greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Don was a man who served God and his country, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a quiet man who would surprise you with his sense of humor and one-liners.
Don’s loving family include his wife, Regina; children Michael (Monica) Hoffart, Manlius, New York, Sharyl Peterson, Devils Lake and Donovan (DeAnne) Hoffart also of Devils Lake; grandchildren Curt (Mallory) Hoffart, Chad Hoffart: Cheslyn (Trevor) Stromme, Brett Peterson: Taylor Hoffart, Trisha (Alex) Olson; great grandchildren Brekken and Carson Stromme and Nora Olson and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters Veronica Wangler, Elizabeth House, Joseph Hoffart, Rose Brossart and Delores Hoffart, in-laws Adam and Elizabeth Koble and other beloved family.
Casket Bearers will be grandchildren Curt, Chad, Cheslyn, Brett, Taylor, Trisha and Trevor and Alex. Gift Bearers will be granddaughters Cheslyn and Trisha.

Joshua J. “Fred” Sailor Jr. 20 was born February 7, 2001 in Park River, North Dakota to Josh and Kristi Sailor.  He was taken on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in a fatal car accident in Kansas.
Upon the passing of his mother Kristi in 2005, Fred came to live in Devils Lake on his grandparents farm, attending school in Devils Lake.
Fred loved the outdoors and all the animals on the farm.  He loved sports and he was a true gamer.  He was like a brother to his cousin Brittyn and would do anything for her. 
Fred is survived by his grandparents Jim and Julie Sailor, uncle Jamie Sailor, his special cousin Brittyn, half-sister Trish of Minnesota, special friend Bailey, and many great uncles, aunts and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his mother and his father who was also in the accident with him.  
A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Spirit Lake Casino for friends and family on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. 

Joshua D. Sailor, 45 of Devils Lake was born on July 9, 1976 in Devils Lake, North Dakota to Jim and Julie sailor and was taken on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in a fatal car accident in Kansas.  
Josh attended school in Devils Lake, Warwick and Underwood, North Dakota.  in March of 1998 he married Kristi Collins and her daughter Trish became part of the family.  They made their home in Park River.  In 2001 they had a son Joshua Jr.  In 2005, Kristi died unexpectedly.  
Josh enjoyed board games, reading history and loved to fish.  He had a big heart for his family and would do anything for them.  
Josh is survived by his parents Jim and Julie Sailor, brother Jamie Sailor, niece Brittyn Sailor all of Devils Lake, his step daughter Trish of Minnesota and many uncles, aunts and cousins.  
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ray and Phyllis Sailor and Delene and Irene Brockel, wife Kristi, and his precious son Joshua died with him.  
A Celebration of his Life for friends and family will be held at the Spirit Lake Casino on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

​Connie I. Hensrud-Estvold, 64, Devils Lake died Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Aneta Parkview Care Center.
Connie Ione Hensrud was born on January 9, 1957 at McVille, ND the daughter of Elroy Hensrud and Ethel (Adams) Hensrud Brosz.  She was raised and educated in Devils Lake, attending Central High School.  She was an accomplished batonist in high school. 
Connie lived and worked in the Devils Lake area for many years until health issues forced her to retire. Connie worked various jobs to support her daughters including 10 plus years with REM.  
Connie loved the outdoors; horseback riding, rodeos, animals, camping and fishing.  She enjoyed travel and did travel to almost every state.  She felt blessed to have been able to share all of these adventures with her children and the love of her life, Donnie Keifat. 
Connie’s daughters were her number one priority. She loved them with all her heart and she was a loving, caring grandmother to her precious grandchildren.   Mom, we love you and we will miss you so much.
Connie is survived by her beautiful daughters Alexis Durbin, Dallas TX, Kelli (Aaron) Zacher, Devils Lake ND, Hayley (fiancé Cainen Kouba) Dauphinais, West Fargo ND and Paige Dauphinias, Fargo ND; grandchildren Dane Durbin, Keiarra Durbin, Kaleb Keating, Kora Zacher: Abbigail Kouba: Issabel Dauphinais; brothers Lance Hensrud, Wyoming and Les Hensrud, Cando ND; many nieces and nephews. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Wayne Hensrud and life-partner Donnie Keifat. 
Funeral Services for Connie will be on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake with Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson officiating.  Connie will be laid to rest in the Devils Lake Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Brittany Jo Whiteshield, 30 of St. Michael, ND passed away on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND. 
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Tekakwitha Center in St. Michael, ND from 5:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.  The procession to St. Michael will leave on Friday at 4:30 p.m. from City Plaza, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, October 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass.
Brittany Jo was born on September 8, 1991 at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake to Alvin Owlboy Sr. and Myrna Whiteshield. She was the oldest of 5 children they had together.  Brittany was adopted by Monica Owlboy who loved her as her own. Brittany attended Four Winds School. She played football for Four Winds, she was number 51.  Brittany graduated with the class of 2010.  Brittany grew up traveling to Pow-Wows and becoming a Jingle Dress Dancer. She and her younger sister Danielle both were dancers, and were very close, spending time together through the years. 
Brittany met the love of her life Jarret Cook in 2005 at a school dance. They were the proud parents of Kayonna and Jayden. Brittany’s children were her whole world and she was the best mother she could be to her kids.  She loved spending time with them and loved hearing about their day and what they were doing. 
Brittany was a very caring and kind, fun, enjoyable, generous, beautiful person who loved to dress up and spend time with her sisters, brothers and friends. She loved to make everyone laugh and smile. She worked for a time at Spirit Lake Casino and at the new Headstart. Brittany loved to clean and cook at Colleen Cook’s, her mother-in-law’s house.
Brittany Jo will always be with us.  She will always be in our hearts and she will be greatly missed by her family which include her mother Myrna Whiteshield; her grandmother Lillie Owlboy; children  Kayonna Whiteshield Cook and Jayden Cook; mother-in-law Colleen Alberts-Cook, sisters Samantha Owlboy, Danielle (Marcus) Owlboy and Tara Jackson; brothers Jeff Whiteshield, Alvin Owlboy Jr., Joseph Yankton, Kalem Jackson and adopted brother Wesley BirdHorse; grandparents Sheila Thompson, Joanne Belgarde, Louella “Lulu” Thompson, Imogene Belgarde, Arlene Belgarde, Audrey Belgarde, Larry Belgarde, Alfred “Fats” Thompson, Francis Brown and Philip “Skip” Longie; aunties Chepa Owlboy, Bonnie Owlboy, Lisa Owlboy, Cheryl Belgarde, Jada Longie, Kasey Lovejoy, Fanette Lovejoy and Ivy Lovejoy; uncles Peter Owlboy Sr., Francis Owlboy Jr., Lonnie Owlboy, Lorman Owlboy Sr., Keith Longie and Gerald Longie and many nieces and nephews.

Christine Peterka, age 66 of Grafton, ND passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Sanford Medical Center of Fargo.


Mary Christine "Kris" Peterka was born October 15, 1954 in Grafton, ND the daughter of the late John C. and Agnes (Kadlec) Peterka. She attended rural school near Veseleyville and graduated from the Walsh County Agricultural School in Park River. Following her education she moved to Phoenix, AZ where she worked in a Honeywell plant. In the mid 1980’s she moved to Fargo and worked in banking. She later moved to Veseleyville to help take care of her mother. She worked as a book keeper of Altendorf trucking. Christine was currently working at the Midway School in Inkster.


Christine is survived by her siblings: Marlys Miller, Minto, ND and John (Bunnie) Peterka, Grafton, ND; 19 nieces and nephews  and her two dogs: Punk and Agnes. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Rosalie, Karen and JoEllen and dogs: Pete and Gus.


Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Veseleyville, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the church cemetery.

Sherry W. Busse, 69, of Cavalier, ND passed away Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Pembina County Memorial Hospital, Cavalier, ND. Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church, Cavalier, ND. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 30th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Askew Funeral Home, Cavalier, ND.
Sherry W. Lewis was born October 4, 1951 at Fargo, ND to Charles W. and Vergil V. (Rickbeil) Lewis. She grew up in Cavalier, ND and graduated from Cavalier High School. Sherry then attended Valley City State College and the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.
On June 14, 1975, she married Francis Busse at Cavalier, ND. After their marriage they made their home in Cavalier. Sherry worked at the Developmental Center in Grafton, ND, Chuck Wagon Café and Leevers Grocery in Cavalier. Things she enjoyed were a love of animals, traveling, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Francis, children: James (Sally) Busse, Charlie (Danita) Busse, Danny (Kayla) Busse, Joey Busse all of Cavalier, ND; grandchildren: James and Jorja, Austin and Kaiden, Sydney, Lucas, Landon, Levi, and Logan and a great-grandson, Jesse, and sister, Janelle Kessler, Grand Forks, ND. Also surviving are her brothers and sisters-in-law: Ron (Connie) Busse, Laurel (Paul) Brusseau, Carolyn (Bill) Dubuque and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Ward Lewis, and brothers-in-law, Tim Kessler and Terry Busse.

Jody B. Deibert, age 57 of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Jody Beth Brandvold was born January 3, 1964 to the late Burvett and Gloria (Mosolf) Brandvold in Park River, ND.  Jody was raised and attended school in Edinburg, where she graduated from Edinburg High School.  After graduation, she moved to Grand Forks where she attended Hair Designers Academy. Shortly after, she began working for Salon 1020. 
Jody was united in marriage to Todd Deibert on October 10, 1992 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edinburg, ND.  They made their home in Grand Forks.  In 1997, Jody purchased Salon 1020, where she owned and operated the salon until her health forced her to retire in 2018.
Jody was one of the most selfless people, always there for anyone in times of need and never expecting anything in return.  She was passionate about her family, lit up the room with a smile and a laugh, and made any family gathering the best time.  She was always baking for her brothers, so they had their muffins and sweet treats.  Jody was always up for an adventure and enjoyed trying new things, especially with her nieces.  She spent countless hours doing hair for her clients and family, and loved every minute.  Her motto was to live life to the fullest!
Jody will be dearly missed by her husband Todd Deibert, Grand Forks, ND, her siblings: Bonnie Nowell of Cocoa, Florida; Wayne (Barbara) Brandvold; Michael Brandvold; and Dale (Sue Mairs) Brandvold, all of Edinburg, ND; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Ronald, infant brother Richard, and brother-in-law James Nowell.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Edinburg.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will follow at Odalen Lutheran Cemetery of rural Edinburg, ND.
