Roger A. Mattson was born June 27, 1938 near Drayton, ND the son of the late Gilbert and Agnes (Nelson) Mattson. He attended rural school near Drayton and graduated from the Drayton High School. Roger was united in marriage to Joann Votava on October 4, 1958 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oakwood. Roger served in the United States Army from 1962-1963. Following his discharge he returned home and started working with Cecil Berger moving houses. He later took over the business and Roger and his son Todd had Mattson House Moving. Roger loved to move houses and did that work for over 60 years. In the winter months he worked for Borden’s and Mattson Manufacturing. Joann passed away on May 31, 2020.
Roger was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Oakwood, St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton and the Grafton Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his children: Todd Mattson, Drayton, ND; Tracy (Dan) Young, Park River, ND; grandchildren: Jonathan (Vanessa) Mattson, Grand Forks, ND and Michael Young, Fargo, ND; two great grandchildren: Aubree and Odin Mattson. Roger was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sons: Toby and Troy, daughter-in-law, Kelly Mattson, brothers: Garfield, Elton, Benjamin, Arlyn, Clayton, Darrell, Larry and Curtis, sisters: Mildred Marier, Virginia Livingood, Betty Ann Cooper and Judy Morgan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Oakwood, ND. Military rites will be provided by the Grafton American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard.
