Peter Janzen
1945 ~ 2023
Following a battle with cancer, Pete Janzen left us on Thursday June 29, 2023 at the age of 77 years. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn his passing.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Helen and children, Connie, Valerie and Mike, Julie and Chris, Andrew and Lucy, and his six grandchildren, Hannah, Liam, Kairi, Bree, Mason, Abigail and his sister, Martha along with many extended relatives and dear friends.
Pete was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Annie (nee Hamm) Janzen and his brothers, Abe, Don, and Bill.
Pete was born September 6, 1945 at the Winkler Bethel Hospital to Peter and Annie Janzen. Pete was the first born in his family of five children. Pete grew up on the family farm with his four siblings in Friedensruh, Manitoba. Pete attended the school across the street until he had to focus his time on the family farm. At the age of 14 Pete started working for Kroeker Farms hoeing onions. Pete had many different roles during his 43 years working at Kroeker’s before retiring at the age of 57 including trucking across North America, all jobs on the farm and Potato Supervisor. At the age of 21 Pete met the love of his life Helen Enns. They were married on August 6, 1967 and started their lives together in the home they purchased on 5th street in Winkler. Five years into their marriage they moved to 9th Street in Winkler where they still call home. Pete and Helen were blessed with four wonderful children: Connie, Valerie, Julie and Andrew. Pete and Helen celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last year with their family. Pete had many loves, but family and friends always came first. Pete enjoyed camping, fishing, woodworking, miniature trains, curling, gardening and keeping a pristine yard. He also enjoyed decorating his yard at Christmas, cooking, canning, volunteering, traveling and helping at Andrew and Lucy’s greenhouse. Pete took great pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow up and the relationships he built with them. They brought a smile to his face like no other. During his 20 years in retirement Pete spent winters practicing carpentry in his backyard workshop and summers camping, gardening or sitting around a fire in the backyard with friends and family. Pete was a devout Christian his entire life and became more involved with the church during his retirement.
Pete’s life was full of love, family, God, and friends. He will forever be remembered for his love, care, and kindness. The hole left by his absence is impossible to fill. We love you forever and always.
The family would like to thank extended family, friends, neighbours, and the church leadership and congregation for their visits, prayers and compassion during this difficult journey. The family would also like to thank the palliative care staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre who supported Pete in his final days.
