Charles Lindell was born June 10, 1928 near Adams, ND, the son of the late Hamilton and Selma (Johnson) Lindell. He grew up and attended country school near Adams. Following his education, he began working for several area farmers. He was united in marriage to Shirley McPherson on June 10, 1950 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. He served in the Army from 1951-1953 where he was stationed at Ft. Hood and later in Korea. The couple made their home in Park River following his discharge. He started working for area farmers again and later drove bulk truck for Charlie Harris. The couple moved to Arizona in 1998 and then back to Grafton in 2011. He was moved into the Park River Good Samaritan in 2013.
He was a member of the Park River American Legion Post #147 and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a former member of the Park River Fire Department and the Walsh County Saddle Club. He enjoyed going for drives around the country and playing cards.
Charles is survived by his son John (Sharyl) Lindell, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Mandy Jo Lindell, Grand Forks, ND, Ryan Lindell, ME, Tyler (Kylie) Lindell, Fargo, ND and Nick Lindell, Fargo, ND; great grandchildren: Kian Lindell and Jayden Lindell; daughter-in-law Phyllis Lindell, Fargo, ND; siblings: Neil (Kay) Lindell, Grand Forks, ND, Joyce (Lloyd) Johnson, Grafton, ND, and Linda (Jack) Gillespie, Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, sons: Robbie and Tom, and siblings: Carol Wang, Betty Flaten and Allan Lindell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM at the Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the Park River American Legion Post #147 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard. Inurnment will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan.
