Marion L. Lunde, age 86 of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.    Marion L. Lunde was born June 13, 1937 in Caldwell, OH the daughter of the late Ted and Mary (Hutchins) Dyer.  After High School she moved to Tucson, AZ and began working as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co.  She was united in marriage to Ronald J. Lunde, Sr in Tucson, AZ on October 2, 1957.   They spent 18 years moving around the country with their 4 children, while Ronald served in USAF.  They settled in Benson, AZ for retirement, until Ronald’s death November 7, 2015.  Marion moved to Moorhead, MN to help care for her great granddaughter Avery, until moving to Grand Forks, ND where she helped care for her great granddaughter Maci.   
Marion was a very selfless person, always putting others first.  Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Marion is survived by her children, Robert (Terry) Lunde, Litchfield Park, AZ., Karen (Michael) Hills, Grafton, ND.  daughter in law, Danette Lunde, Crookson, MN.  Grandchildren: Justin (Megan) Hills, Tanner Hills, Meagan (Clint) Chadwick, Erin (Jeff) Archer, Tawnya Lunde, and Tommy Lunde.  Great Grandchildren: Logan, Tanner, Maci, Avery, Jayden, Caroline, Landon, Kayden, Zayne, Juliana, and Violet.    She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons Ronald Jr and Thomas, sisters: Katherine, Jane, Clara, Ruby, and Mary. 
  As per Marion’s wishes, a private celebration of her life will be held with inurnment at Grafton, ND on Saturday, May 11, 2024.   

Sharon Chaput
May 7, 1949 — January 18, 2024
Bismarck, ND

Sharon Lundquist was born May 7, 1949, to Thure and Florence Creola (Kjos) Lundquist. She graduated from Langdon High School in 1967 and furthered her education at Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, ND. On September 19, 1969, she married David Chaput in Wichita Falls, TX. They lived in Texas where David served in the US Air Force until moving back to North Dakota to start farming. Sharon worked at First State Bank, Farmers Union Insurance and Cavalier County Republican while living in Langdon. In 2002, Sharon moved to Bismarck where she worked at Design Wizards until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing/quilting, gardening, and canning. She looked forward to seeing and visiting with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving Sharon are her children: Darby Hart (Brian) of Wales, ND, Dawn Gullingsrud (Lee) of Menoken, ND, and Jeff Chaput (Audra) of Langdon, ND; grandchildren: Andria (Richard) Juarez, Austin Hart, Brandon Hart, Jacob Schmidt and Jaydon Gullingsrud; and siblings: Sandra (Richard) Grinnell and Loren Lundquist. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Terry Lundquist.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Brook Funeral Home in Langdon, ND. Burial will be at Loma Cemetery near Loma, ND.

Roberta “Bobbie” L. Mattson, 76 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at her home in the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
There will be a Celebration of Life Open House at the Knights of Columbus in Devils Lake ND on Sunday, May 5, 2024 beginning at 2:00 p.m.  There will be a time of prayer and sharing of memories at 2:00 p.m. followed by food and fellowship.
Roberta Lorene Werner was born on March 4, 1948, in Devils Lake ND the daughter of Milton L. and Emma A. (Berg) Werner. Her early years were spent in the Hampden/Starkweather ND area. At the age of 8 she moved with the family to Minot ND where she was raised and educated.
Bobbie met and later married Steven Englman while he was serving in the military in Colorado. They were the proud parents of Michael and Lori.
Bobbie was united in marriage to John “Jack” Mattson on December 8, 1982, and they made their home in Arizona until Jack retired from the military. Bobbie and Jack had been high school sweethearts that had reconnected after so very many years. They had a bit of a wandering spirit and lived in Donnybrook, ND, Texas and Montana until 1989 when they came back to the Lake Region area and called it home the rest of their lives. Jack died on September 26, 2019.
Bobbie was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother and dear friend to many. Her family meant the world to her, and she loved with her whole heart. She treasured good friends, good times, good conversations.
If you knew Bobbie, you knew she had a collector’s heart. Her collection of roosters and dolls was truly amazing. She loved to crochet and share her creations with family and friends. She did a crossword puzzle or more every day.
We will forever treasure the memories of our life with Bobbie.
Bobbie is survived by her children Michael Englman of Devils Lake and Lori Russell of Edmore ND; grandchildren Colton and Levi Englman: Susan (Houston) Mooneyham, Nathan (Lindsey) Russel, Dava (Alex) Rowe; great grandchildren twins Boston and Brooklyn, Hunter, Maxwell and Vada; sisters Sylvia Loehr, Devils Lake and Linda (Roger) Lauckner, Carrington ND; step children Tanya Mattson and Tammy Mattson and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Mattson, mother-in-law Eunice Mattson, grandson Chad, sisters Myrna Skjervheim, Leila Pillow, and Lola Werner.  

Dale Robert Pohl was born August 7 1961, and died April 28 2024 at the age of 62.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Dale Pohl after his long, difficult battle with Cancer. He is survived by his wife Wanda, his daughter Kara, son Ryan, his mother Lillian, brother Fred and sister Myrna. He was predeceased by his father Eric.
In 1965, the Pohl family moved from Winnipeg to Morden, which afforded Dale, Fred, and Myrna a simpler childhood. Growing up in a small town meant everyone that lived there shared experiences and memories with each other, which often led to lifelong friendships. But it was when he was 6 years old that he met the person who would be his best friend and the love of his life, Wanda. At age 14, they started dating and became inseparable. Together they traversed the joys and challenges of adolescence, and eventually tied the knot when they both turned 21. Two years later they gave birth to myself Ryan and then my sister Kara two years after that. During this time, he worked with his brother, friend, and business partner Fred along with his father Eric at the family-owned Morden Auto Body Ltd. For over 45 years Dale and Fred repaired cars for their loyal customers and took an immense amount of pride in their workmanship. He proudly believed that the people who trusted them with the task, deserved the best, and always said "We have to make it right". He and Fred believed a community should take care of each other.
Owing to the mechanical experience he used at work, Dad loved working with his hands and said: "If you could fix a car, you could fix anything". He appreciated quality and was creative; meticulous and applied his experience to every project he took on. Whether it was rebuilding a garage or baking hamburger buns, it always started with deep thought and planning. Dad instilled these same values into family life. He and mum raised us with the kind of care and compassion you can only dream about. His interests became whatever we were interested in at the time. When we wanted to go motorcycling, we did that. When it was camping, he made it happen. He was truly and selflessly devoted to his family throughout his life.
On December 5, 2019, we found out Dad had Cancer. From then on, he went through 36 rounds of radiation and 2 rounds of chemo the first time, tongue surgery and grafting the second time, and finally 6 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy the third. Exhausted from four and a half years of fighting, he took his last breath at 4am on Sunday April 28 with Wanda by his side. She was by his side every single day.
Our family cannot express how deeply saddened we are by the loss of our Husband, Father, Brother, Son, and Friend. His devotion, friendship, and the things he taught us is the legacy he leaves, and we are so grateful to have been able to share a sliver of time with him.
You're our superhero. We will miss you forever.
We would also like to thank Cancer Care Manitoba, The Morden Cancer Care Resource Centre, the BTHC Cancer Care unit, the BTHC Palliative Care unit, right down to the nurses’ aides, housekeeping, maintenance, and cafeteria staff at The Boundary Trails Hospital. You are all amazing and appreciated. Within that, we'd like to express our deepest thanks to Dr. K. Martin, along with the doctors and nursing staff who continuously showed compassion and care for Dale during his battle up until the end.

Wanda, Ryan, and Kara Pohl

Richard N. Ritter, 85 of Devils Lake formerly of Munich ND passed away Sunday, April 28, 2024 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital.
Richard Norris Ritter was born December 19, 1938 in Langdon ND the oldest child of Norris and Ovidia (Barstad) Ritter. Richard lived 18 years on the family farm in Huron Township. 
He attended grade school at Huron Township School and high school at Clyde Public School and graduated in 1956. He continued his education at Interstate Business College for two years in Fargo, ND. 
He started working at First State Bank of Munich in May of 1958 and retired from there in 1999. 
Richard joined the North Dakota Army National Guard in Devils Lake ND in October of 1960 and was discharged in 1966. 
Bernetta Schommer and Richard were united in marriage on June 21, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Munich, ND. They had two children, Kevin and Cindy. 
Richard was an active community member; he was President of the City of Munich Park District for 27 years, served as Treasurer for Munich Public School District, served as President/Secretary/Treasurer for the Munich Commercial Club, was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Knight of Columbus 4th Degree, Devils Lake Elks, life member of Lodge #1216 Fraternal Order of Eagles in Langdon ND and the American Legion Post #276 at Sarles, ND. 
Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting, the trips to Canda fishing, hunting ducks, geese and pheasants in North Dakota and also fishing at Devils Lake the past few years. 
Time spent with the children and grandchildren, boating, water skiing and tubing at Vagabond Village in Park Rapids, MN for many summers were a great time for Richard. They even had Christmas in July a few times in the later years. 
Richard is survived by his wife Bernetta; son Kevin (Rebecca) Ritter, Bismarck ND and daughter Cindy Babinski, Virginia MN; grandchildren Lauren (Ryan) Guggenberger, Bismarck, Dr. Katie Ritter, Coralville IW: Rebecca Babinski, Sartell MN and Matthew (Andrea) Babinski, Duluth MN; great grandchildren (Rebecca’s) Isaac and Jaxon Stewart and (Matthew’s) William, Theodore and Maxwell Babinski; sisters Gloria Romfo, Langdon ND and Carole Sharff, Christine ND; many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews and their families. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Gerald, brothers-in-law Armond Romfo and Carter Sharff; in-laws Andrew and Annie Schommer. 
Visitation for Richard will be on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.  The Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus with a 4th Degree Honor Guard at St. Joseph on Thursday prior to the Mass. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Munich ND on Friday, May 3, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. 

John Beckett
November 1, 1948 - April 28, 2024
In the early morning of Sunday April 28 John passed away peacefully at the page of 75, with family at his side in his family home.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years Eunice. His four children, Sheila (Barry) Desrochers, John (Elizabeth) Beckett, Stacy (Thor) Bahl and Candace (Craig) Phillips. He also leaves his grandchildren, Kyle (Katie) Cowper, Chad (Brandi) Cowper, Sydney (Brent) Pritchard, Lauren Dixon, Jonathan Beckett, Kaitlyn Beckett, Gracie Beckett, Sharissa (Trevor) Buchanan, Justice Bahl, Riley (Lauren Kraus Van Dyck) Bahl, Pierse (Janelle Spek) Bahl, Ty Bahl, Scott Fehr, Tristen Fehr, Alex Fehr and Zachary Phillips. He was also blessed to have great-grandchildren whom he also leaves to mourn Maddie, Livvy, Jayden, Orianna, Paisley, Liam, Lincoln, Phoenix and Libbii.
John is survived by his sister Rosamary Antonio, In-laws, Bill Clouston, Jim Clouston, Joe (Susan) Lambert, Bob (Pat) Lambert, Shirley Hares, Jean (Larry) Barstad, Fred (Karen) Dennison, Heather Dennison along with many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ada Beckett. Siblings, Muriel (Wilf) Patten, Lillian (Ed) Davis, Nellie (Tom) Glendenning, Raymond (Isabel) Beckett, Violet (Bob) Nolan, James (Lenore) Beckett and Lora (Bill) Elliot. In-laws, Campbell and Elsie Clouston, sister-in-law, Mary Clouston, brother-in-law, Ken Hares, son-in-law, Keith Cowper and granddaughter, Payton Beckett.
John was born on November 1, 1948 in Carman, MB and at the age of 12 the family moved to Winnipeg. As he grew up he did odd jobs until he found his true calling, carpentry. He worked in the city during the week, coming out to the country on weekends to visit family. This is where he met the love of his life, Eunice. They lived in Roseisle with their kids until they lost their home to fire. They then moved to Brandon and after 10 years there they made their last move out to Roseisle. John could always be found out camping with his family or fishing with his close friend, Ken Moore. In his later years he was in his shop working on some project Eunice would have for him. After retiring he tried his hand at beekeeping with his son John until his passing. You could always count on John to be available to give a helping hand to family, friends or his community.

Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at the EMC Church in Roseisle, MB from 1pm-1:45pm. Memorial service will be at 2:00pm followed by a private graveside burial.

Bertha M. Campbell, age 93 of Grafton, ND passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at the Lutheran Sunset Home of Grafton.
Bertha Collette was born July 30, 1930 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Elzear and Aurore (Demers) Collette.  She attended school in Oakwood and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1948.  She attended nursing school in Fargo, ND with her best friend and cousin June French. She returned home and worked at various jobs.  Bertha was united in marriage to Ray Campbell on June 19, 1952 in Oakwood.  The couple lived and farmed near Oakwood where they raised their three children.  In 1992 they moved to Grafton.  Ray passed away in 2009 and she continued to make her home in Grafton, moving into the Leisure Estates in 2016.
She was a past member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oakwood and was currently a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton.  She was also a member of the St. John’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Polka Lovers Klub of America.
She is survived by her children: Daryl (Julie) Campbell, Lynn, and Kelly (Steve) Dokken, all of Grafton, ND; 4 grandchildren: Dana Jonsson, Megan (Jeremy) Houser, Ellie and Roch Dokken; 3 great grandchildren: Jax and Kenley Houser and Karsten Jonsson; sisters: Jane Pilon, Gladys Misialek, Alice Mae (Jerome) LaHaise and brother Willie Collette; sister-in-law Maxine Collette; and special friend Linda Hoselton.  She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Leona, husband Ray, sisters: Addie Schuster Kalinowski and Lucille Lafreniere and brother Edgar Collette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Leisure Estates Apartments, the Lutheran Sunset Home, or St. John’s Catholic Church.

Donna-Rae Bargen (nee Cowan)
December 5, 1961 - April 24, 2024
Donna-Rae passed away peacefully from complications of MS with her husband of forty years, John, by her side. Besides John, she leaves to mourn her daughter Lisa (Stefan Nickerson) and four grandchildren, Jordyn, Taylee, Finn, and Leo. She will also be deeply missed by her mother Betty (John Forster), brother Barry (Lorna), and many friends and relatives.
Donna-Rae was born in Roseau Minnesota and lived in Piney Manitoba for the first six months until her Dad was transferred to Carman to supervise the hydro district there. She enjoyed school in Carman and often talked of great times with her school friends as well as singing in the United Church choir in Graysville. She worked at Manitoba Hydro's office in Winnipeg for a short time after graduating but it wasn't long before small town life called her back to Carman.
There she worked at Beaver lumber and Carman Co-op, met the love of her life, John, and moved out to the farm near Barnsley. Lisa was born a few years later and life was good. Donna-Rae had a passion for art and loved to paint and sketch, as well as spending time beautifying the yard. She also loved books, and was able to fulfill her dream of getting her Bachelor of Education by driving into the University of Manitoba for a few years. She was fortunate to get a job teaching at Carman Collegiate and her passion for teaching and the students was equal to John's passion for farming. She loved it! But MS had appeared in her life shortly after Lisa was born and it would change her life forever. It progressed to the point where she was unable to keep teaching, and slowly took away her ability to paint and sketch. She never surrendered, and we were able to enjoy many camping trips to the Whiteshell and campgrounds throughout Minnesota. Later, she and John enjoyed traveling to Florida, California, and many trips to Mexico with friends and family. Donna-Rae loved the ocean and the sound of the waves soothed her soul. Even though she was robbed of so much, including the ability to pick up her young grandchildren whom she loved dearly, she seldom complained. She had an inner bitterness to MS but she seldom showed it, and faced her challenges with dignity and grace. It made caring for her very easy.
She may not have got everything she wanted out of life, but she loved what she had and was grateful for it.
Death is not an ending but a symbol of movement along the path upon which we are all traveling. As painful as it is to lose your physical presence Donna-Rae, your spirit can never be lost and lives on in all who knew you. Rest in Peace Love.
A private celebration of Donna-Rae's life will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fort Totten ND beginning at 5:00 p.m. The procession will leave from City Plaza on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. 
Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the church with burial in St. Jerome's Catholic Cemetery. 

Sharon Star Rainbow, was born on June 12th, 1973 and went to her sacred home in Heaven on Sunday, April 21, 2024. She passed away at St. Aloysius Hospital in Harvey, ND at the age of 50.
Sharon Star was the daughter of Norma (Lambert) and Julius Rainbow Sr. She was raised in the Crowhill area of the Spirit Lake Nation. She attended several different schools including the School for the Deaf in Devils Lake, School for the Blind in Grand Forks and the State Developmental School in Grafton but none seemed to fit her needs. She then stayed at home until she was 19 and became a resident of the Jackson Home in Harvey ND. This was the perfect fit. She was a resident there for 27 years.
Sharon’s job was to shred paper. She loved listening to music, especially Pow-Wow music and anything that was up beat. She loved her Koosh balls, painting and was thrilled to go for rides around the area with the Jackson staff. Sharon loved the staff, all of them so much. As Sharon’s family we are very thankful for them and the loving care they gave her through the years.
Sharon is survived by her precious family. Her sisters Janice Cavanaugh (Vince), Margrette Cavanaugh, Connie Rainbow (Ron), Tammy Littlewind (Richard) and Angel Bergrud (Daryle); godparents Linda Lawrence and Dennis Corbine; many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Norma and Julius, maternal grandparents Grace (Young) and Charles Lambert, paternal grandparents Carrie (White) and Bernard Rainbow; brothers Rustin Cavanaugh, Richard "Cowboy" Cavanaugh, Howard Cavanaugh, Rudy Cavanaugh, Bernard Rainbow Sr., Julius Rainbow Jr., Victor Rainbow and Myron Lambert; sisters Martina Robertson (Cavanaugh), Alura Rainbow and Cheryl Cloud. 
Pallbearers will be: Dane Cavanaugh, Jeremy Rainbow Sr., Addison Lenoir, Mitchel Lenoir, Bernard Rainbow, Russell Cavanaugh and Myron Lambert Jr.

It is with a heavy heart that the family of JOAN ALLISON announce her sudden passing on Sunday April 21, 2024 at the age of 83.  Joan will be remembered by her husband of 61 years, John; children Leslie (Greg), Kent (Barb), Craig (Lindsay); grandchildren, Wade, Ryan (Amber), Courtney (Anthony), Colin, Tyson; siblings Ken (Tina), Shirley (Rob); and numerous other family and friends.
Barbara Joan Ure was born March 14, 1941 to C. Raymond and Greta Ure in Winnipeg.  She spent her formative years and schooling in Morden Manitoba followed by graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing.  Married John Allison to begin a family and moved to Myrtle, Manitoba.  Joan quietly went about with her special talents to help others as a 4-H Leader Myrtle Merry Makers, and Tax specialist for many in the Carman and Winkler area.
Joan loved reading, the continual pursuit of knowledge, and completing crosswords and puzzles. She was ever the silent cheerleader of her family and grandchildren’s endeavors.  Nary one to be in the spotlight but from which everything flourished from her touch… a private, gentle, and kind soul.
Love you forever Wife, Mom, Nana, Friend.
