Abe (Red) Hiebert 1933 ~ 2023 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great grandfather at the age of 89 years. Abe passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn two daughters, Jennifer (Bob), Connie (Wilbert), daughter-in-law, Doreen, one son, Wayne (Carol) and their families as well as one sister, Helen, six brothers, John, Nick, Herman, Dick, Chester and Cliff and their families. Abe was predeceased by his beloved wife, Liz in 2019, son, Robert in 2021, granddaughter, Michelle, great granddaughter, Carley, his parents, Abram and Helena Hiebert, brothers, Peter and David, brothers-in-law, Art McGinnis and Bob Toews, sister, Mary Toews and sister-in-law, at Patterson. Clifton Anderson, 75, of Walhalla, ND passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at his home. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walhalla Assembly of God Church in Walhalla, ND. Visitation will be held Friday, February 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Celebration of Life service at the church. Clifton “Clif” Anderson was born September 25, 1947 in Dickinson, ND to Clarence and Anna (Lovine) Anderson. He grew up in New England, ND and graduated from the high school there. Clif attended Dickinson State College and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Education. Clif and Cheryl (Reiner) met while attending Dickinson State and were married on July 26, 1969. Clif held high school science, math, and driver education teaching positions in three North Dakota towns: South Heart, Linton, and Walhalla. He taught through most of the 1970s before leaving that profession. He then held several science-related jobs including ones at the local ethanol plant, Simplot, and the Cavalier Air Force Station as a civilian. He also did draft work for Mispa Manufacturing and helped build grain bins in the Walhalla area. Clif retired in October of 2011. He was active in the community distributing commodities and serving on the Pembilier Nursing Center board, Cavalier housing board, Ministerial Association of Walhalla (treasurer), as a Gideon, as a deacon, song leader, and Sunday School teacher in his church. Clif enjoyed road trips, visiting with family and friends, playing rook, fishing with his siblings, and helping others. Children were always a delight to Clif and they in turn enjoyed his playfulness. He and Cheryl served together in church ministry throughout their marriage. Clif led community Bible studies and he and Cheryl enjoyed ministering at three nursing homes. Clif touched many lives with his big smile, songbird whistling, and his strong Christian faith. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children: Chad (Angela) Anderson, Cami (Tim) Downer, Cody (Denise) Anderson, and Cullen (Amy) Anderson; grandchildren: Rose Anderson, Michael Anderson, Daisy Anderson, Steaphan (Meg) Downer, Callie Anderson, Harmony Downer, Brittany Anderson, Nathanial Anderson, Cassandra Anderson, Tabitha Anderson, Anthony Neglia, Noah Neglia, Darian (Abe) Murillo; great-grandchildren: Lenann Downer, Stella Neglia, Adrian Murillo, Addison Murillo; siblings: Gil (Ann) Anderson, Sue (David) McKinley, Roger (Judy) Anderson, Linda Reish, Harlen Anderson, Arlene (Vern) Retzlaff, Gale (Diane) Anderson Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Lillian Schraeder. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Gideons International. Cheryl V. Degenstein Peterson, 69, of Devils Lake, ND, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 15th, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Cheryl was born on June 5th, 1953 in Harvey, ND to the late Patricia and Virgil Degenstein. She was raised in Lakewood, and attended school until her graduation from Devils Lake Central High in 1971. She worked for the ND Dept of Transportation for many years and most recently at Walmart . She loved camping, canoeing, boating and horseback and trail riding with the Fort Totten Trail Riders. Most of all, she loved her friends, family and Elvis. She is survived by her loving partner of 30 years, Al Rodlin, beloved son, Jason Degenstein (Heather), grandson, Jaxson Degenstein, and brother, Corey Degenstein (Eula). Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, sister Claudette, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. Friends and family will always remember her strength, her sense of humor, her love of animals and the great outdoors. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service is being planned and details will be announced soon. Ole L.E. Olson, 93, of Langdon, ND, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon. Ole LuVern Elmo Olson was born October 12, 1929, at the family farm in Loam Township to Ole E.M. and Helga (Bratlie) Olson. Ole graduated from Langdon High School in 1948 and started working at C.F. Ramage Garage as a bookkeeper and parts man. On December 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Welsh in Langdon, ND. He started working for Farmers Union Oil Co. in February of 1953 as a bulk fuel truck driver, and then in 1970, he began employment with Gulf Oil Corp. When Gulf Oil Corp. moved out of the area in 1974, Ole started Olson Oil Co. In April 1977, he resumed employment with Farmers Union Oil until retiring in December of 1994. Ole and Marjorie were also rural mail carriers from 1982 to 2007. Ole had many interests: woodworking, gardening, photography, reading, going to threshing bees, doing jigsaw puzzles, shopping, and listening to old time music. He thoroughly enjoyed decorating for holidays, both inside and outside his home and passed on that tradition to his children. He and Marjorie were fortunate to be able to travel to see new places and visit family and friends. He loved spending time with his kids at all ages of their lives, be it berry picking, sledding, or having them as companions in his truck. That love of spending time with family continued with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of United Lutheran Church in Langdon and was the president of the church council in 1968 when the new church was built. Ole was presented with the Outstanding Handicap Citizen Award in 1970 by the governor of North Dakota and the Governor’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped. Surviving are Ole’s children: Mary (Daniel) Lobato of Windsor, CO, Nancy (Wayne) Coyle of Langdon, ND, Linda (Donald) Heyd of LaMoure, ND, Laura (Michael) Bisenius of Grand Forks, ND, and Curtis Olson of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Carrie (Jeremiah) Miller, Chad Coyle, Lisa (Dean) Hawley, Sara (Chris) Duplex, Daniel J. Lobato, Jamie (Amanda) Coyle, Matthew (Megan) Bisenius, Becky Heyd, David (Cassandra) Bisenius, Michelle (Jesse) Chavez, Andrea Bisenius; eighteen great-grandchildren; sister Helga (Dennis) Schuschke; sister-in-law Anna Olson; brother-in-law Jim Welsh; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, Miss Kitty. Daniel Harder 1940 ~ 2023 Daniel (Dan) Harder, 82 of Oakbank Manitoba,(formerly of Morden) passed away during the early hours on February 15, 2023 at Beausejour Health Center. Daniel is survived by his wife Nicole, his three sons Terry, Kelly, his wife Martha, Randy, his wife Kim, and stepson Jeff, his wife Val . 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. One brother Jack, his wife Shirley, and one sister, Mariann, her husband Will. His niece Bev, her husband Darren, Shelly, her husband, Mark and nephew Sheldon. He was predeceased by his parents Dan and Anne, one grandson Kenton, and one sister Annie. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 21 at Wiebe’s funeral home Morden with interment immediately following the service at hillside cemetery. Pastor Art Wiebe of Winkler Sommerfeld church will officiate. Dan was born near Lowe Farm Manitoba on July 14, 1940. He lived there for the first 12 years of his life. After which the family moved to the farm north of Morden. He was baptized on confession of his faith in the Sommerfeld Church. He was married to Katherine in 1959. In 1963 they purchased a farm near Miami Manitoba. They worked very hard and raised their three sons there. His heart was a farmer. The farm was sold in 1980 and shortly after the marriage ended. Dan began a truck driving career and drove for many years. He became a driver supervisor, which included teaching mountain driving in British Columbia to novice drivers. In the fall of 1985, he remarried to Nicole in which they eloped to Las Vegas in a romantic fashion. They purchased their home near Oak Bank, MB, the following spring. After his truck driving career ended, he began a career with Manitoba Crop Insurance. He enjoyed working with the farmers. At age 73 he eventually retired to his home in Oak Bank. His hobbies throughout his life consisted of hunting, fishing and traveling. A special thanks to Trisha, Bev, Steve, Amanda, and other family members that sat with him in his final moments in Beausejour Health Center. Joseph Alex Herman Sr 79 of Warwick ND passed onto the Spirit World on February 15th, 2023, at the CHI St Alexis Hospital in Devils Lake, ND Joseph was born on March 8th, 1943, to Flora Boyer Herman and William Herman Sr. in Devils Lake ND. Joe was raised in Fort Totten ND where he attended school at Calvary Square School. He later went away to Flandreau Indian High School where he finished and graduate in 1961. Joe later met and married his first wife, Mary Morin. From this marriage an infant son was born baby Joe Herman. Sadly Mary and Baby Joe both passed away during the birth of his infant son “Joe”. Joseph later met and married his 2nd wife, Susie Amos in California, of this marriage they had 3 children. Joe and Susie later divorced. He then met his 3rd wife Carol Gravelle, of this marriage they had a son together. Carol sadly passed away on April 1st, 2020, due to cancer. Joe worked his whole life; he had a variety of jobs, but his most recent job was at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. He worked as a security guard, then on the drop team and most recently and currently was in the Surveillance Department. Joe had just received his certificate for 25 years of employment in October which he was very proud of. Joe loved to laugh and tease his coworkers. He always had a big smile on his face and a joke for everybody he came into contact with. Joe was diagnosed with lung cancer in both of his lungs in mid-September. Joe just finished 40 plus rounds of radiation and chemotherapy and got to ring the bell for finishing. He was the meaning of a true warrior. He was a fighter and a survivor for his kids, grandkids and great grandchildren. They were his determination to fight this cancer and live. But sadly, he lost his battle. Joe loved to play cards, hunt, fish, and working on cars was one of his biggest passions in his younger days. But his most favorite thing was spending time with his children, grandchildren and his family. He loved it whenever family and friends would pop in for a visit and spend time with him. He also loved to travel to powwows and watch his grandchildren dance he was so very proud of them all. Joes loving surviving family he is survived by: Daughters: Jovell Campbell of Great Falls Montana, Lesa Herman Rivera of Salt Lake City Utah, Lynelle (Raul) Herman Cruz of Salt Lake City Utah; Sons: Bernard Montes of Salt Lake City Utah, Joseph Herman Jr. of Old Agency South Dakota, Casey (Melissa) Brown of Kansas City Missouri, Billy Herman of Florida; Sister: Shirley Culbertson of Fort Totten, ND; special Niece Angela (Murle) Richotte of Devils Lake ND; 23 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren; Stepchildren Lori Frost and Julie Spicer; Sister-In-Law Cheryl Gladue. Joe is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins; his 2nd wife Susie Amos. Thomas Joseph Hermann was born October 9, 1961 to Andrew and Rose (Brunelle) Hermann in Georgetown, MN. Tom was committed to helping their family farm while he was growing up. This continued throughout his life, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Tom graduated from Moorhead High School in 1980. After graduation he went to Moorhead Tech for 2 years, then decided to go to NDSU where he graduated with and agricultural degree. Following his graduation he moved North and took a job with American Crystal Sugar. Tom loved working with sugar beets and all of his coworkers and growers. After working for 30 years with Crystal Sugar he retired in 2020. Tom was a member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church and was very active with the St. Thomas Fire Department. He was well known for his cooking and great sense of humor. Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, and cooking for his daughter, granddaughter, or any other family and friends. Tom also loved holding and talking about his new granddaughter Maizy. Tom passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks at the age of 61. Although Tom’s time here on earth was not nearly long enough, our lives are richer and more blessed because he shared his love and friendship with all. Tom is survived by his daughter Janessa (Wade) Halvorson, Oakwood, ND; granddaughter Maizy Halvorson; his beloved granddog Izzy; siblings: Jerome (Linda) Hermann, Michael (Sheila) Hermann, Charlie (Sherry) Hermann, Bill (Mary) Hermann, Richard (Lisa) Hermann, Mary (Ernest) Normandin, Barb (Mark) Thompson, Patricia Audette, Jean (Deon) Walton; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Rose Hermann; sisters: Rosie Hermann and Karen Hermann; brother-in-laws: Bernard Audette and Rick Thomas; and a few nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton, ND.
