June 10, 1935 – March 26, 2024
On Tuesday March 26, 2024, Elwin went to be with his beloved saviour Jesus.
He was predeceased by his father Maynard, mother Effie, sister Ruth, and brothers Gilbert and Bob. He leaves behind his cherished wife Thelma, children Jeff (Leah), Leanne (Gord), and Brad (Robin), six grandchildren Stefan, Jackson, Alex, Emma, Sofie and Sam, 3 step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brothers Jim, Cecil and Brian and in-laws Garry, Linda, Ethel, Irene and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family have chosen private prayers and celebration. One day, Elwin’s ashes will be spread with Thelma’s ashes. She was the love of his life, and in his words, “my whole life”.
One of 7 children, raised by a widowed single mother in Limerick, Saskatchewan, he knew hard times as a boy. He worked at a young age to buy items like a bike, baseball glove or clothing that wasn’t handed down. This fortitude and ingenuity made him a success in life and a champion of those who were less fortunate. It also made him skilled at building or repairing anything. Nothing made him more at peace than to work on a project, especially for someone else.
After a rewarding banking career, he and Thelma built and ran an innovative business together. Elwin was extremely proud of their achievements.
June 10th would have been his 89th birthday and Elwin and Thelma’s 64th wedding anniversary. If you feel inclined to celebrate Elwin’s rich journey, please choose one of his favorite activities on June 10th in memory of him. He loved to bake bread and cinnamon buns, golf (he shot his age many times), curl (his rink once beat the defending world champions), fish, bake apple pie with his wife, watch sports, learn something new, fix something for somebody or bring peace and joy to someone in need.
He will be missed in ways that cannot be imagined.
Elwin was cared for with abundant compassion by the skilled and generous people at the Grace hospital.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to contribute to your favorite charity.
