Bertha Collette was born July 30, 1930 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of the late Elzear and Aurore (Demers) Collette. She attended school in Oakwood and graduated from St. Aloysius Academy in 1948. She attended nursing school in Fargo, ND with her best friend and cousin June French. She returned home and worked at various jobs. Bertha was united in marriage to Ray Campbell on June 19, 1952 in Oakwood. The couple lived and farmed near Oakwood where they raised their three children. In 1992 they moved to Grafton. Ray passed away in 2009 and she continued to make her home in Grafton, moving into the Leisure Estates in 2016.
She was a past member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oakwood and was currently a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church of Grafton. She was also a member of the St. John’s Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Polka Lovers Klub of America.
She is survived by her children: Daryl (Julie) Campbell, Lynn, and Kelly (Steve) Dokken, all of Grafton, ND; 4 grandchildren: Dana Jonsson, Megan (Jeremy) Houser, Ellie and Roch Dokken; 3 great grandchildren: Jax and Kenley Houser and Karsten Jonsson; sisters: Jane Pilon, Gladys Misialek, Alice Mae (Jerome) LaHaise and brother Willie Collette; sister-in-law Maxine Collette; and special friend Linda Hoselton. She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother Leona, husband Ray, sisters: Addie Schuster Kalinowski and Lucille Lafreniere and brother Edgar Collette.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Grafton. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Leisure Estates Apartments, the Lutheran Sunset Home, or St. John’s Catholic Church.
