Arlys J. Nielsen, age 79 of Park River, ND passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the First Care Health Center of Park River, ND.
Arlys J. Goranson was born October 21, 1944 in Maddock, ND the daughter of the late Carl and Ruth (Egge) Goranson. She grew up and attended school in Oberon, ND. She also attended NDSU and Interstate Business College in Fargo. Following her education she married Kenneth Nielsen on June 20, 1964 in Oberon. The couple lived in Fargo for a time before moving back to Oberon. The then lived in New Rockford, Mcville, Rolla where she worked as an assistant librarian at the Rolla School, then Park River, ND where she worked for Experience Works until her retirement. Arlys also played in a dance band called Country Plus for over 20 years. She moved to the Good Samaritan Center in 2022.
Arlys is survived by her husband, Ken of Park River, ND; son, Kelly (Sherri) Nielsen, Fargo, ND; two grandchildren: Abby and Tyler, her sister, Yvonne Ulland, Mayville, ND; her sister-in-law, Kathy Knatterud, Maddock, ND along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Kris Eliot; her sister Dianne; sister-in-law, Barb and brothers-in-law; Mark and Wayne and nephew Cody.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Park River, ND. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Hillside Cemetery, Oberon,ND.
