Margaret Catherine Barr (Marnie) nee Wishart
September 13, 1926 - June 1, 2021
Marnie passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on June 1, 2021at Tiger Hills Health Centre in Treherne, Manitoba.
She will be greatly missed by her children Stuart Barr (Karen) and Lynn Barr, her niece Lesley Shumilak (Douglas) and nephew Bradley Vannan (Dorothy). She will also be missed by her sisters-in-law Ivella Minor and Allison Hilton. She is predeceased by her husband John Arnold Barr (Arnie), her parents Edgar and Elizabeth May Wishart and her sister Dorothy Vannan (Wishart).
Marnie was born and raised on the family farm north of Portage la Prairie where she attended East Prospect School and then Portage Collegiate.
Marnie married Arnie Barr in 1952 and they settled in Fort Garry to raise their family. They were active members of Fort Garry United Church and the Wildewood Club.
Marnie and Arnie moved to their acreage at Portage la Prairie after he retired where they lived for 12 years. Marnie was active in the Portage Rotary Club, the Herman Prior Senior
Centre, Trinity United Church, and the Portage Golf and Country Club. They also loved to dance and Square Dancing was something Marnie enjoyed very much.
They went on many vacations over the years, exploring Europe on several occasions. For many years they spent the winter in Westlico Texas, Palm Springs, Victoria and Osoyoos B.C.
In 1995 Marnie and Arnie moved to Carman and quickly became active members of the community. Marnie golfed, curled Square Danced, Carpet Bowled and played bridge weekly. No one had a fuller social calendar than she did. She was also an active member of the Carman Active Living Centre and Carman United Church.
Marnie was much loved by everyone who knew her and made lasting friends where ever she went. In respect of Marnie’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
