Butch was born July 25, 1944 in Drayton, ND, to Edward and Dorothy (Long) Cox. He was baptized at the Methodist Church of Grafton. He attended the Assembly of God Church with his mom and later attended church with family friends.
Butch spent the majority of his life with the loving care of his parents in Grafton. In 1987 he started attending Friendship of Grafton, later moving into a Friendship Group Home.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing baseball at the Grafton Park, the score was always 2 to 2. He also enjoyed the local swimming pool and making friends wherever he went. He was well known in the Grafton area and never forgot a person he met. Later in life he enjoyed county/polka music, western movies and watching baseball.
He is survived by his sister Marjorie Harlow; niece Renae (Elton) Heuchert; nephews: Rodney (Judy) Harlow and William (Tammy) Harlow; great nieces and nephews: Tyler (Jamie) Harlow, Troy Harlow, Mikayla (Tyler) Tingwald, Stephanie (Jason) Peterson, Carissa (Justin) Aberle, Heidi (Craig) Schaefbauer and Susie (Austin) Simons; as well as several great-great nieces/nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Gerald Harlow.
The family would like to thank his Friendship Family for the amazing care and all the fun he enjoyed with you. He enjoyed Park River Bible Camp, the trip to Nashville, fishing, camping, Twins games, visiting horse ranches, train rides and eating chicken. His family appreciates the wonderful acts of kindness shown to Butch through the years from the people of Grafton and neighboring communities.
A memorial service will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the Grafton Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will follow the service at the Drayton City Cemetery at 1:30 PM.
