Cledith was born June 25, 1946 in Grafton, ND, the son of the late Urban and Edna (Olson) Carlson. He grew up and attended schools in the Hoople area and later in Park River. He served in the US Army from 1966-1967 where he was stationed in Germany as a radar operator. Following his discharge, he returned to Park River where he worked for several area farmers and later at the ABM Missile Site in Nekoma, ND. He was united in marriage to Darlene Houser on April 24, 1970 in Park River. The couple made their home in Park River and he worked for the City of Park River for 37 years. He started in the garbage department and later in the light and water department and finally as a city police officer. Darlene passed away on October 30, 2017 and he continued to make his home in Park River.
He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River and of the Lankin American Legion Post #157. He enjoyed watching sporting events, fishing, and helping Danny Larson on the farm whenever he could.
Cledith is survived by his son Dion (Miyako) Carlson, Park River, ND; grandchildren: Cordell, Trent and Shantel Carlson; siblings: Joyce Goodoien, Park River, ND, Sharon (Doug) Waldorf, Sartell, MN, Echo (Dwight) Kuntz, Glen Ullin, ND, Wesley (Nancy) Carlson, Pisek, ND, David (Cheryl) Carlson, Langdon, ND, and Mike (Mary) Carlson, Superior, WI; mother-in-law Margaret Houser, Park River, ND; as well as 2 aunts, 1 uncle, and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Priscilla Carlson and sister Bonnie Risinger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 10:30 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Park River. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Guard and the Lankin American Legion Post #157. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery of Park River.
