Cynthia Jelinek was born on February 6, 1963, in the St. Ansgar Hospital of Park River, daughter to Aileen and Alexander Jelinek. She grew up in Pisek and was the second youngest of 13 children. She attended and graduated from Pisek Public School. In 1988, she married Steve Vander Tuig. On May 24, 2002, she married the love of her life, Larry Schiernbeck, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Cynthia worked many jobs in the two states. She lived her adult life in Nebraska and North Dakota. More recently for work, Lon's Hardware and the J-Mart (her family's store in Pisek, ND.
She enjoyed volleyball, bowling, gardening, casinos, Sister Acts, Star Lake, and spending time with her family. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends and will be remembered for always keeping track of everyone she knew on birthdays and anniversaries with loving messages for them. Cynthia was a member of St. Mary's of Park River and St. John's Catholic Church of Pisek and Pisek American Auxillary.
She is survived by her husband Larry of 21 years, children, Christina (Michael) Vander Tuig, Peter (Tiffany) Vander Tuig, Kaylee (Jeremy) Boyce, and Step-children, Jeff (Lynn), Julie (Jeff) Priborsky and Dawn (Gary) Bell, have 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Patricia Karas, Lenny, Loy (Ruth), Mary, Teresa (Bill) Brandt, Francis (Bonnie), Dominic, Carmel (Brian) Litton, Stephen (Irene), Bernadette and Germaine (Steve) Heller. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Judy Dunn, brother-in-law Leonard Dunn and David Karas.
Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church, Pisek, ND. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Pisek, ND.
