Daniel was born April 17, 1937 in Lampazos de Naranjo, Mexico to the late Daniel and Maria de Jesus (Gonzalez) Villarreal. Daniel grew up and attended school in Lampazos. He began working as a young man in agriculture. In 1962 he met and later married his beloved Maria Susana Mendoza. Daniel was an incredibly hard-working man. In 1965, he moved his family of four to North Dakota and settled in Grafton. He continued to work in agriculture for area farmers. Their family grew to six and Daniel and Susana took pride in raising their children and building a loving home. Daniel adored his family and when grandchildren arrived, he was thrilled. He continued to work into his late 70s, when he officially retired, to enjoy great-grandchildren.
Daniel is survived by his wife Susana; children: Gloria Merkins, Perham, MN, Juanita (Ernesto) Parra, Laredo, TX, Arturo Villarreal, Grafton, ND, Daniel (Angie) Villarreal III, Fargo, ND; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings: Gloria, Estella, and Rosalinda; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Danny, and son-in-law, John Merkins.
A private family service was held and burial will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery of Grafton.
