Visitation will be on Tuesday (tomorrow), November 8, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake, ND with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon will officiate the Scripture Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Lunch and fellowship will follow the Mass at the Devils Lake Elks Lodge with burial in St. Benedict’s Cemetery, rural Crary, ND at 1:30 p.m.
Casket bearers for Delores will be her grandsons and great grandson: Justin Stromme, Ryan Stromme, Kale Stromme, Keegan Stromme, Juliano Moreno and Aaron Blazer. Reading the Scriptures will be Ryan Stromme and Isabella Moreno. Eucharistic Gift Bearers will be Weston, Scarlett and Sophie Stromme.
Delores Mae Stromme was born on November 30, 1935 in Devils Lake, the daughter of Lorian and Eileen (Reardon) LaBarre. She was raised on the family farm in Webster, ND. She was active in basketball and enjoyed spending time with her friends while in high school.
Delores was united in marriage to Floyd James Stromme on September 22, 1953 in Devils Lake. Delores and Floyd briefly lived in Fort Hood, Texas while Floyd was serving in the U.S. Army. They returned to North Dakota and made their home on the Stromme family farm. Delores kept busy with their 5 children, gardening, canning, and raising her flower gardens. Delores took great pride in their beautifully maintained home and farm.
Faith and service was a very important part of Delores’ life. She is a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America and served faithfully for 58 years holding the title of Regent from 1979-1981.
Delores also served on the Altar Society for St. Benedict and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Community involvement was important to Delores. She is a lifetime member of the Pioneer Daughters, and you could often find her working at the Lake Region Pioneer Daughters Museum. Delores would tell you one of the most enjoyable affiliations in her life were the years she spent serving on the ND State Fair Board from 1982-1992. Delores and Floyd were frequent travelers and spent time visiting family all over the United States and a variety of international destinations. She was very social and enjoyed playing cards and games with her many friends.
Delores loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Delores is survived by children Craig (Debbie) Stromme of Devils Lake, ND; Dan Stromme of Carbondale, CO; Cindy (Tim) Blazer, Cibolo, TX; Scott (Cindy) Stromme, Grand Forks, ND and Gwen (John) Moreno, Phoenix, AZ; 10 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild; her sisters, LaVonne (Dean) Ummel, Betty (Gordon) Mathiason, Carol (Bill) McDonald, Linda Steinhaus, Lori Denis; her brother Jim (Ginny) LaBarre; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Jim Volk, Dale Olson and Marie and Gary Anderson.
Delores is preceded in death by her loving husband, Floyd, parents, sisters Janet (Jim) Volk, Judy Berg, Marie (Dale) Olson, brothers Bob (Lee) LaBarre and Don (Barb) LaBarre and daughter-in-law, Debbie Stromme.
