Dennis A. Hartje was born April 10, 1952 at Grafton, ND to Ardell and Mata (Stark) Hartje. He grew up in Cavalier and graduated from Cavalier High School in 1970. Dennis then attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND and received a graphic arts degree in 1972. He worked at the Cavalier Chronicle for 32 years and Leever’s Foods as meat manager for 10 years. While married to Beverly Dirks, they had three children, Ryan, Jill, and Brad. Things he enjoyed were spending time with his grandchildren, golfing where he was a two-time club champion, fishing, hunting, and gardening. He always made a mean batch of sauerkraut!
He is survived by his children: Ryan (Lisa) Hartje, Mandan, ND, Jill (Lucas) Mauch, Wyndmere, ND, Brad (Jamie) Hartje, Fargo, ND, grandchildren: Cole Hartje, Logan and Taylor Mauch, Madilynn and Calvin Hartje. Also surviving are his siblings: Marlene (Clarence) Boettger, Judy (Carlton) Ill, Joanne (Roger) Rasmussen, Gary (Karin) Hartje, and Scott Hartje; and sister-in-law, Gwen Hartje.
Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Mark Hartje.
