Dick Benson, 88 of Wolford, ND passed away on Sunday June 13, 2021 at the Towner County Medical Center, Cando ND. Services will be held at a later date.

Carl Richard “Dick” Benson was born April 5, 1933 to Carl and Doris (Paulson) in Bisbee, North Dakota. He attended school in Bisbee and on June 3, 1951 he was united in marriage to Babe Jolliffe in the Mylo Lutheran Church. They made their home in the rural Wolford area on a farm and to this union four children were born; Carla, Rick, Randy, and Dean.
Dick farmed in the Wolford/ Agate area his entire life and worked several winters in the late 1950’s in the oil fields of Tioga. He enjoyed spending summers at the lake cabin on Belcourt Lake where his family would visit and enjoy pontoon rides, water skiing and fishing . He loved to hunt in the area and out west. Dick earned his private pilot's license and had 2 planes, first a Cessna 170 with a red tail that Babe would spot when he flew over the lake. Later with his 2nd plane, a Cessna 172, he flew Babe all over the state to fly-in breakfasts, or to “visit” friends (by buzzing them overhead) and sometimes just checking fields. In his retirement he took up gardening, growing abundance of tomatoes, beans, peas, and was proud of the roses around the deck. Dick had many blue heeler dogs over the years and leaves behind Rusty, a red heeler. Dick was a member of the Mylo Lutheran Church and served on the church council; he also served on the Wolford School Board, the Agate Oil Company and later the North Central Grain Co-op boards. Dick joined Babe in the Towner County Living Center in August of 2020. She passed away on April 26, 2021.
Dick is survived by sons Rick of Wolford, Randy (Kathryn) of Bisbee, Dean (Klang) of Wolford; son-in-law Don Lee of Minot ND; grandchildren Rebecca (Tracy Tarr) Lee and Emily Lee of Minneapolis, MN; Jarrin Benson with great-granddaughter Lennon of Portland OR; and Sara (Kyle) McClammer with great-grand sons Maxwell and George of Indianapolis, IN.
He was preceded in death by his wife Babe of nearly 70 years, his parents, daughter Carla Lee, daughter-in-law Lavonna Benson, brother Jerry Benson and grandson Jay Essen.
