
Dorothy E. Bjornstad, 87, of Cando, ND passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Towner County Living Center in Cando. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cando Lutheran Church in Cando with Reverend Bonnie Weaver officiating. The visitation will take place on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. prayer service at the Dunnigan-Dix Funeral Home in Cando. A visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the Church. The Interment will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Cando. Music will be provided by Dick and Lynette Lybeck. Casket bearers will be her sons, Chris Bjornstad, Sig Bjornstad, Martin Jens Bjornstad, Andy Bjornstad, Teddy Bjornstad and Peter Bjornstad.

Dorothy Elaine Bjornstad was born on February 22, 1934 to Sofus and Gertrude Jensen. Dorothy and her sister Mildred grew up on several small farmsteads of Clay County before the family settled on a farmstead along the Red River in Oak Park Township north of Moorhead, Minnesota.
She graduated high school in Moorhead MN and went on to nursing school in Valley City. She worked at the hospital in Valley City, that's where she met her future husband Sigurd (Buddy) Bjornstad. They were married on Dec. 1, 1954. They moved to Cando where they farmed, and Dorothy worked as a nurse and raised their family. She worked as a nurse in Towner County for over 50 + years. Which included working at the Towner County Memorial Hospital, Home Health Care, Footcare and she also went on many ambulance transfers.
She was involved in American Legion, Sons of Norway, Hospital and Living Center Auxiliary, Green Thumb Garden Club, and many other organizations which she was proud to be part of.
She enjoyed her many years of bowling, and every Monday morning quilting, as well as gardening, canning, sewing, church activities, and being with her family. Dorothy always had a smile on her face and had many good friends over the years.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Doug) Henke of Cando, sons: Chris of Cando, Sig (Bella) of Cando, Martin Jens (Sheila) of Cando, Andy of Westminster Co, Teddy (Robyn Spencer) of Cando, Peter (Lisa) of Cando, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother-in-law Ray Reid of Chinook MT and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Sofus and Gertrude Jensen, her husband Sigurd (Buddy), her sister Mildred Matthys, and her daughter-in-law Johnella Bjornstad, as well as many brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
