Duane Severson was born April 11, 1946 the son of the late Goodwin Olia and Inga Adelia (Skare) Severson in Grafton, ND. He grew up on the family farm, south of Fairdale. He attended grade school at Dewey Township country school and was a proud Fairdalian Bulldog, where he was known as “Bomber” for his athletic talents, graduating in 1964. After graduation, Duane began farming and working for Burbidge Seed.

The couple made their home at the family farm, until 1973 when they moved to Fairdale. Duane worked for the Fairdale Farmers Cooperative Elevator for 26 years. In 1992, Duane and Linda moved to Grafton and he began working for Motor Coach Industries and then for the Life Skills and Transition Center until his retirement in 2011.
Duane was a former member of the Adams Mountain Lutheran Church, Swedish Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church of Fairdale. He was a volunteer fireman and first responder for the Fairdale Fire Department for many years. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Grafton. Duane had many nicknames “Dewey” around town or “Papa” to those that lived and worked at LSTC. He was a kind and generous man, who would give you anything in your time of need.
