Elaine M. Postier was born on February 10, 1947 to John & Maxine (Legg) Postier in Homestead, FL. She was raised in rural Hoople attending and graduating from Hoople High School in 1965. Elaine went on to continue her education at Mayville State graduating with her associates degree in business. She then began working at Borden’s Company in Grafton as a bookkeeper.
Elaine was united in marriage to Richard Thompson on June 7, 1974 at Grafton Lutheran Church. Together they made their home in rural Grafton while Elaine became a full time homemaker. After her children started school she became a part time sales clerk at Reyleck’s Department Store as well as working at the Grafton Curling Club Cafe.
In 1996 Richard and Elaine moved from the farm into a home in Grafton. They also enjoyed many winters in Fort Myers, FL and summers at Gull Lake Campground in Bemidji, MN.
She was a member of the Grafton Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was a longtime member of the Grafton Heathers Curling Club and Valley Dolls. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveled all over ND, MN, SD & FL to compete in bridge tournaments. She loved to follow her grandchildren’s activities, was an avid shopper, bingo player, and kept the family lines updated with her investigation of the family trees through genealogy.
Elaine is survived by her children: Becky (Rick) Hajicek of East Grand Forks, MN and Chris (Jenn) Thompson of Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Oriana Thompson, Parker Hajicek, Ella, Anders, Mae & Ruth Thompson, Grafton, ND; sister Gail (Dave) Peil of Drayton ND, sister Betty Crowder of Hoople ND, brother Dean (Janice) Postier of Roland, OK; several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her parents, her brother-in-law Orlan Melland, brother-in-law Russell Crowder and sister-in-law Valerie Postier and sister-in-law Clarice Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at Grafton Lutheran Church in Grafton, ND. Visitation will be Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5-7 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may call at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grafton Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials in honor of Elaine may be given to Unity Medical Center Foundation, Grafton Lutheran Church or Lutheran Sunset Home or a charity of choice.
