Frances Beverly Martineau was born October 11, 1938 in Pembina, North Dakota, born the ninth child of 13 to the late Lorenzo and Margaret (Wills) Martineau. She attended rural country school and high school in Pembina. She grew up on the family farm until moving to Grafton. She worked at the Ben Franklin Store and Associated Potato Growers. Frances was united in marriage to Larry Mattson in May of 1960 in Grafton, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Grafton where they raised their two children, Loren and Lorie. Frances was united in marriage to Wesley Sather in July of 1987 in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple made their home on Wesley’s farm near Grafton. Wesley passed away June 9, 2009.
She loved her family and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and attend their many events. She loved to host family gatherings especially Christmas. She enjoyed baking, cooking, auction sales, decorating her home and being quite the prankster. She enjoyed having visitors and making sure they were always fed. Frances will be missed by many especially her family and her dog, Tyson.
Frances is survived by her children: Loren (Marge) Mattson, Grafton, ND; Lorie (Perry) DeGeldere, Grafton, ND; grandchildren: Dustin (Katie) Mattson, Blaine, WA; Gwendolyn (Ryan) Riskey, Grand Forks, ND; and Jessica (Christopher) Woninarowicz, Drayton, ND; great grandchildren: Zach, Caleb, Ellison, Addilyn, Ashton, Jaxon and Sophia; her siblings: Bill Martineau, Cavalier, ND; Judy Hove, Grafton, ND; Joyce Wosick, Cavalier, ND; Wanda DuRain, Bismarck, ND; Constance Bushaw, Grand Forks, ND. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wesley, step-son Bradley Sather, brothers: Arthur “Pete”, George and Richmond Martineau and sisters: Elmere Kramer, Louise Keney, Faye Quam and Doris Markel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grafton Lutheran Church, Grafton, North Dakota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Grafton Lutheran Cemetery.
