
Eugene R. “Gene” Solberg was born March 1, 1944 at Mayville, ND to Arvid and Hazel (Anderson) Solberg. He grew up near Cummings, ND and graduated from Mayville High School. Gene also served in the North Dakota National Guard. Gene attended Mayville State where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Education. On July 31, 1971, he married Joyce Dumas at Walhalla, ND. He taught school in Walhalla and also worked for Philip Stremick Construction. Gene owned and operated the Walhalla Inn and the Forestwood Inn until his retirement.
After his retirement, Gene and Joyce wintered in Lake Havasu City, AZ. During the summer months he enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends in Walhalla, and he also enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children: Audra Solberg, Elk River, MN and Chad Solberg, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Asher Nugmanov, McKinley Solberg, Cameron Solberg, and Tristan Solberg. Also surviving are his siblings: Harlan Solberg, Warroad, MN and Kay (Larry) Brady, Edina, MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother, Norlyn Solberg and sister-in-law, Sylvia Solberg.
