Georgine (Gean) was born on March 20, 1927 to Phyllis (Blanchard) Cavegn and George Cavegn in West Fargo, ND. She graduated from West Fargo High School in 1944 and completed additional higher education courses at Bethel College and Washburn University in Topeka, KS and Bismarck Junior College and University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.
She married James Kevin O’Toole in September of 1952 and had five children. Immediately out of high school she went to work in the business office of Armour & Company where she was employed as a bookkeeper and accountant. She also worked as a clerk at Standard Oil Company, a teacher’s aide and personal care assistant, but her primary focus was as a loving and dedicated mother raising her five children. Her husband’s training and employment as a physician had them residing in many communities over the years: Fargo, ND; Park River, ND; Topeka, KS; Newton, KS; Fergus Falls, MN and finally St. Cloud, MN.
Gean was a fun-loving and energetic mother and grandmother always ready for a game or new adventure. Her many talents included painting, charcoal drawing, writing poetry, singing, sewing, bridge, and serving as hostess for many events and parties. She was a very social woman with a charming twinkle in her eye. She could always be counted on to lead a sing-a-long at St. Benedict’s Senior Center. She enjoyed all kinds of recreational activities including bowling, swimming, curling, golfing, yoga, camping or watching the loons at sunset at the lake cabin.
She was an active community member involved in a number of hospital auxiliaries, Daughters of Isabella, St. Vincent DePaul Society, PTA, Girl and Boy Scouts, Sunday School, and local politics.
She is survived by her children Peggy (John) O’Toole-Martin of Rochester, MN; Bobbie (Calvin) O’Toole-Beasley of Wilmington, NC; Jim (Carrie) O’Toole of Mayetta, KS; and Erin (Steve) O’Toole-Tomczik of St. Cloud, MN. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren and 9 great-children.
