Harold Frank Rempel
1972 ~ 2021
Harold was born to Isaac and Susan Rempel on February 3, 1972, in Winkler, MB the third child of six. Harold grew up on a farm near Plum Coulee. He loved animals and was often building or modifying furniture and equipment. Harold attended Plum Coulee School and graduated from Garden Valley Collegiate in 1990. He was baptized upon the confession of his faith on May 19, 1989 at Plum Coulee Sommerfeld Church.
Harold and Aganetha Giesbrecht were married on April 26, 1998. In late 2000, when they were expecting their first child, Harold was very excited to become a dad. He did his best to provide a home for his growing family on a farmyard south of Plum Coulee. Harold’s heart was filled with joy at the birth of each of his children: Alex, Ben, Calli, Dannika, and Esther. He loved his children and had great concern for them. After the marriage ended, Harold tried to find opportunities to spend time with his children and invest in their lives.
Harold trusted God and knew God loved him. He lived out his faith and had a sincere love for serving others. As a young adult, he served as a Sunday School teacher at Plum Coulee Sommerfeld Church. He even moved to Paris, Texas where he taught at a private school for a year. Harold had a big heart for the less fortunate and opened his home to those in need. He shared rhubarb and garden vegetables with his friends and neighbours. Harold wasn’t afraid of hard work, whether it was putting up fencing and corral panels or helping a neighbour build a chicken coop. He was a regular volunteer at Central Station in Winkler. On Mondays for the community meal, Harold helped in the kitchen and always pitched in to clean up afterwards. He would also be there to hand out food hampers and attend the men’s cooking class. For the last year and a half, he faithfully provided homecare assistance for his dad. Recently, he received his “100” certificate from Canadian Blood Services for donating blood.
Harold had many struggles in life. From the time he was little, Harold’s eyesight was very poor. He biked between Plum Coulee and Winkler a lot, even in the winter. Over the years, he made connections to get rides and most recently, he purchased a zippy side-by-side to get around. His mental ailments often impeded his ability to form deep and meaningful relationships with family. Although he periodically suffered from depression, he found ways to pour hope and love into those around him.
Harold’s passing was sudden and unexpected. Thursday morning, his family was called and told Harold had collapsed. On April 29, 2021, at his home near Plum Coulee, Harold Rempel age 49 went to be with his Lord. Left to mourn his passing are his two sons, Alex and Ben, his three daughters, Calli, Dannika, and Esther, his parents, Isaac and Susan Rempel, his one brother, Charles (Martha), his four sisters, Linda (Dave Hildebrandt), Carolyn (John Loewen), Pauline (Andrew Nickel), Rosella (Kevin Janz) and many nieces and nephews.
