Harvey Jerome Olsen was born on August 21, 1930 to the late Frank and Josephine (Berg) Olsen on the farm in Park River, ND. He attended school in Park River and graduated from the Walsh County Agriculture School. Harvey served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Harvey married Arlene Groven on March 4, 1951 at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hoople, ND. During their 71 years of marriage, they lived in Park River, Sharon, Edmore and Ellendale, ND where he managed grain elevators. In 1980, they moved to Fargo and then to Grand Forks in 1983 where he worked for Harvest States Cooperative as a Field Man. In 1985 they moved to Fargo and he worked in Ulen, MN as the elevator manager. Harvey retired in 1992, and they began wintering in Mesa, AZ. In August 2015, they moved back to Grand Forks, ND to be closer to family.
Harvey was a lifetime member of the American Legion, The Forty and Eight, the V.F.W., the Eagles, and Sons of Norway. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, yardwork, traveling, reading and listening to music. Harvey was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He could always be counted on for support, advice and he could carry on a conversation with anyone he came in contact with. He will be missed dearly by his family.
He is survived by his wife; children: Joyce Rice, Grand Forks, ND and Vicki (Lane) Bina, Lawton, ND; seven grandchildren: Desiree Bina and Deitra Bina, Bismarck, ND, Derissa (Dustin) LeFleur. Devils Lake, ND, Denae (Kyle) Stern, Garden City, SD, Kyla (J.R.) Burgess St. Cloud, MN, Megan (Lance) Schill, Langdon, ND, and Landon (Kristen) Rice, Edmore, ND; great grandchildren: Dentyn, Kollyns, and Wittyn Schill, Tenley, Brekken, Livianna, and Zaya Burgess, Wesley Rice, Kennedy, Gentry, and Brinkley Stern, and Ian LaFleur; and nephews: Milton (Gloria) Olsen and Wayne (Nancy) Bell, Park River, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Edwin and Bennie, sister Frances Bell, nephews: Robert Olsen and Harding Olsen and niece Wanda Bell.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 20, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hoople, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by Park River American Legion and the ND National Guard Honor Guard.
