Heinrich (Henry) Guenther
1961 – 2022
Henry passed away on Saturday July 16, 2022.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Valerie (nee Dyck), his children and their families: daughter, Chrissy Guenther and Troy Sweeney, son, David Guenther and Melissa Dyck, son, Mathew Guenther and Renee Wall, Henry’s parents, Bernard F and Helena (nee Dyck) Guenther, three sisters, three brothers and their families.
Henry was born March 17, 1961 in Colony Sommerfeld in Paraguay. He moved with his family to Winkler, MB in 1967 where he attended school. He was baptized on June 1, 1980 in the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in Winkler by Bishop John A Friesen. In 1979, he married Val and they settled in Plum Coulee to raise their three children. Henry was always a hard worker. He started as a labourer moving on to Tru Value Home Furnishings where he was part-owner with his father and brother, Peter. After the business dissolved, Henry went on to long haul trucking, going from Vancouver to Montreal. Shortly after, Henry went on to post-secondary school to receive his nurse’s aide training and then on to work at Eden Mental Health for a number of years. He then went back to long haul trucking for a short time before he started a carpentry company. This is where Henry really thrived! He loved to woodwork and had a great eye for detail. He built everything from garages to beautiful intricate china cabinets as well as doing many different renovations. As Henry’s health began to decline, he started to lathe pens and pipes and like all of Henry’s woodwork, each one was done to perfection.
